Cyient will provide comprehensive engineering services, leveraging its green energy expertise to optimize design, procurement, and construction efficiency.
Cyient Ltd., a global Intelligent Engineering solutions company, has announced a significant strategic partnership to support the development of a green hydrogen facility in Bodø, Norway. This project is being executed by GreenH, a Norwegian renewable energy company, in collaboration with Luxcara, a Hamburg-based independent asset manager specializing in clean infrastructure. The announcement was made via an official press release on April 14, 2025.
The Bodø project is poised to become a cornerstone of Norway’s national strategy for renewable energy, with a focus on delivering green hydrogen fuel to support the country’s maritime and heavy transport sectors. Once completed, the facility will play a critical role in supplying hydrogen to Torghatten Nord AS, the operator of the Vestfjorden ferry service—a flagship initiative in Norway’s efforts to reduce emissions in maritime transport.
Civil construction of the project began in fall 2024, and this recent engagement with Cyient marks a major milestone toward delivering an innovative, sustainable energy solution in Northern Europe.
As part of the collaboration, Cyient will act as the owner's engineering partner, providing detailed plant engineering services and leveraging its decades of experience in delivering green and renewable energy solutions. The scope of Cyient’s work will cover plant optimization, procurement planning, construction support, and lifecycle efficiency enhancement.
Espen Lied, Chief Operating Officer at GreenH, expressed enthusiasm over the partnership, stating:
“We are excited to collaborate with Cyient to bring our hydrogen vision to life in Bodø. With Cyient’s expertise, we’ll complete the detailed engineering of our hydrogen plant and provide the basis for procurement, construction, and installation of our first facility for production and direct bunkering of green hydrogen.”
From Cyient’s side, Espen Berg, Managing Director of Cyient Norway, highlighted the significance of this opportunity:
“Green hydrogen is a game-changer in the world’s energy transition. We are proud to contribute engineering solutions for this world’s first-of-its-kind hydrogen production facility focused on maritime transport. Our expertise in delivering efficient, cost-effective plant designs will help GreenH and Luxcara make this project a great success.”
About the Project
The hydrogen production and distribution facility in Langstranda, Bodø, will serve as a hub for zero-emission fuel close to its end users—mainly ferries and transport vehicles. This approach minimizes logistical complexities and reduces carbon emissions across the hydrogen supply chain. Once operational, it will allow direct hydrogen bunkering, a pioneering advancement for the maritime industry.
The Torghatten Nord AS ferry fleet, one of Norway's largest, will benefit from the green hydrogen supply through a long-term fuel agreement, further pushing the envelope in maritime decarbonization. This aligns with broader European and global goals around sustainable marine transport.
