In a significant move for the safety of Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has granted him Z-category security across India due to growing security concerns and potential threats to his life. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will now be responsible for his protection across the country, a step that comes after a thorough review by central intelligence agencies.

The 89-year-old Dalai Lama, who has long been a symbol of peace and compassion, will now have Z-category protection, which involves the deployment of elite CRPF commandos. A dedicated team of 30 commandos will be assigned to protect him, working in shifts to ensure his safety during his travels and public appearances.

Increased Security Measures for Dalai Lama

Previously, Dalai Lama had been provided with minimal protection by the local Himachal Pradesh Police, with additional security provided when he traveled to Delhi or other parts of the country. However, in light of the increasing security threats, the Home Ministry decided to extend the security cover by placing him under the Z-category system, typically reserved for individuals facing significant security risks.

The CRPF’s VIP security wing will now be tasked with safeguarding Dalai Lama, ensuring that there is no compromise on his protection. As part of the arrangement, the CRPF will also take over the responsibility of securing Dalai Lama's movements, ensuring he can continue his spiritual and public duties without fear of harm.

Sambit Patra’s Z-Category Security Amid Manipur Violence

In a separate development, the Home Ministry has also extended Z-category security to BJP leader Sambit Patra. Patra, a Puri MP, oversees the party’s affairs in Manipur, a state that has been grappling with ethnic violence for nearly two years. The escalating conflict in the region has led the government to grant him the same level of security protection to ensure his safety amid growing unrest.

This decision highlights the government’s priority to safeguard key political leaders facing threats due to the ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur, a region marked by violent protests and clashes.

The Z-category protection granted to both Dalai Lama and Sambit Patra reflects the government’s commitment to providing enhanced security to individuals who are at high risk. With both figures playing prominent roles in their respective spheres, the government’s decision to allocate this level of protection shows a proactive approach to ensure their safety amidst rising threats and tensions.
