Dassault Aviation and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) have formally entered into a landmark partnership to manufacture the Rafale fighter aircraft fuselage in India, marking a major milestone in the country's aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
Under the agreement, the two companies signed four Production Transfer Agreements which will enable TASL to set up a state-of-the-art production facility in Hyderabad. This facility will focus on manufacturing key structural sections of the Rafale fighter jet, including the lateral shells of the rear fuselage, the complete rear section, the central fuselage, and the front section.
This initiative represents the first time Rafale fuselages will be produced outside France, reflecting a decisive step in strengthening Dassault Aviation's global supply chain and localisation efforts.
According to Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, the expansion of local partnerships with firms like Tata Advanced Systems is critical for ramping up Rafale production while maintaining the highest standards of quality and competitiveness.
The facility in Hyderabad is planned to commence production by 2028 and is expected to deliver up to two complete fuselages per month, making it a crucial hub for high-precision aerospace manufacturing.
Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Advanced Systems Limited, emphasised that this partnership is a significant milestone in India’s aerospace journey. It highlights the growing trust in Tata Advanced Systems’ manufacturing capabilities and the strength of collaboration with Dassault Aviation.
He further noted that the project reflects India’s progress in building a modern and robust aerospace ecosystem capable of supporting global platforms and contributing to the global aerospace supply chain.
This collaboration also aligns closely with India’s Make in India and AtmaNirbhar Bharat initiatives, signalling a commitment to bolstering economic self-reliance while establishing India as a key player in the global aerospace sector.
By localising production of the Rafale fuselage, India is set to enhance its aerospace infrastructure, create skilled jobs, and deepen its participation in advanced manufacturing, technology transfer, and defence production.
This partnership is expected to have lasting strategic benefits, boosting India’s position on the global aerospace map while ensuring the continued success and competitiveness of the Rafale programme worldwide.
