The Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 concluded on February 5, with voting held for all 70 seats in a peaceful manner. The final results are expected to be announced on February 8, but the exit polls have already created significant buzz, with multiple surveys predicting a victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). According to these predictions, the BJP is likely to form the next government in the national capital.
Exit Poll Predictions
Multiple exit polls have given a clear edge to BJP, with projections showing the party securing a significant number of seats. The Axis My India exit poll forecasts the following results:
- BJP: 45 to 55 seats
- AAP: 15 to 25 seats
- Congress: 0 to 1 seat
- Others: 0 to 1 seat
Similarly, the CNX exit poll predicts:
- BJP: 49 to 61 seats
- AAP: 10 to 19 seats
- Congress: 0 to 1 seat
- Others: 0 seats
These exit poll results indicate a dominant performance by the BJP, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), currently in power, is expected to face a significant setback. The Congress party is expected to make no major gains in this election, with a dismal showing in both exit polls.
AAP Raises Allegations of Poaching
Reacting to these exit poll projections, Arvind Kejriwal, AAP's national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister, raised serious allegations against the BJP, accusing them of attempting to poach AAP candidates. In a tweet on X, Kejriwal claimed that 16 of AAP's candidates had received calls offering them ministerial positions and a bribe of Rs 15 crore to switch sides and join the BJP.
Kejriwal questioned the credibility of the exit polls, stating that if the BJP were indeed winning more than 55 seats, they wouldn't need to resort to such tactics. He went on to allege that these exit polls were likely part of a strategy to create an atmosphere for poaching MLAs. Kejriwal firmly declared that no AAP member would defect.
Both Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh echoed these claims, with Singh specifically criticizing the BJP for their attempted manipulation of the election process.
BJP's Response to Allegations
The Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva responded sharply to these allegations by accusing Sanjay Singh of making false claims out of desperation. Sachdeva demanded that Singh retract his statements and apologize or face legal consequences. He also reminded Singh that Atishi Marlena, the current Delhi Chief Minister, is out on bail following a similar case related to false allegations of offering bribes to legislators.
Sachdeva rejected the idea that the BJP was attempting to poach AAP MLAs, calling the claims a desperate attempt to discredit the party.
Voter Turnout
The voter turnout in the Delhi Assembly Elections was over 60%, with approximately 1.56 crore eligible voters casting their votes. Among the districts, Northeast Delhi recorded the highest turnout at 66.25%, while the Southeast district saw the lowest turnout at 56.16%. In terms of constituencies, Mustafabad had the highest voter turnout at 69%, while Mehrauli recorded the lowest at 53.04%.
What’s Next?
The counting of votes is scheduled for February 8, and the results will determine the fate of the Delhi government. As per the predictions, the BJP is expected to secure a clear victory over AAP, signaling a major shift in the capital's political landscape. The Congress party, however, is not expected to make any significant impact in this election.
