The Delhi Mahila Samriddhi Yojana was officially launched on March 8, 2025, by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta as part of a women-centric initiative. As one of the key promises in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) election manifesto, this scheme will provide Rs 2,500 monthly allowances to women from economically weaker sections of the city.

Objectives of the Scheme

The primary goal of the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana is to offer financial support to women living in Delhi, especially those who are non-taxpayers and have a family income below Rs 3 lakh per year. With the official launch of the scheme coinciding with International Women’s Day, CM Rekha Gupta emphasized the importance of empowering women and acknowledged their increasing roles in various sectors.

"The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign has set the stage, and now, we are in the third phase, 'Beti Badhao.' Women are leading in every field, from national security to global diplomacy," said CM Gupta, stressing that the scheme aims to bolster women's financial independence.

Eligibility Criteria

The Delhi government has outlined clear eligibility criteria for women to qualify for the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana:

  • Age range: Women between 18 and 60 years
  • Income: Family income of less than Rs 3 lakh annually
  • Taxpayer status: Non-taxpaying families
  • Geographic location: Must be a resident of Delhi

This scheme excludes women employed by the government or those already benefiting from other government schemes.

Registration and Documents Required

The registration process for the scheme will be conducted through an online portal, which is being developed by the Delhi government. In order to register for the scheme, women will need to provide the following documents:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Ration Card
  • Address Proof
  • Registered Mobile Number

The Delhi government has also asked relevant departments to collaborate and share data, ensuring accurate identification of eligible women. By integrating data from sources such as the Chief Electoral Officer and the Food and Civil Supplies Department, the IT system will cross-check applications to verify eligibility against existing government databases.

When Will Women Receive Rs 2,500?

The Delhi government expects around 15-20 lakh women to benefit from the scheme. While the application process begins today, the exact timeline for disbursements has not yet been revealed. However, the government has assured that women will receive the Rs 2,500 once their applications are verified and approved.

By streamlining the registration process and connecting Aadhaar numbers with application data, the government aims to ensure smooth and timely distribution of the benefits.

This initiative is seen as a significant step towards ensuring financial security for women in the capital and reflects the broader agenda of the BJP to uplift women in various states through similar schemes such as Ladli Behna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh and Ladki Bahin Yojana in Maharashtra.
