Major Highlights:
Health Concerns Raised: Delhi Minister Atishi accused the BJP of deliberately harming Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's health while he is in Tihar Jail, citing his diabetes and potential health risks.
Tihar Jail’s Denial: Tihar Jail authorities refuted AAP's claims, stating that Kejriwal’s health is monitored by an AIIMS medical board and remains stable.
Political Tensions: The dispute underscores ongoing political tensions between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with both sides presenting conflicting reports about Kejriwal's health.
On September 14, 2024, Delhi Minister Atishi raised serious concerns about the health of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail. Atishi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to harm Kejriwal's health, citing his long-term diabetes and the risk of severe complications. She claimed that Kejriwal's fluctuating blood sugar levels could potentially lead to fatal outcomes such as a coma, brain stroke, or brain hemorrhage.
Accusations and Concerns
Atishi's statements during a recent press conference highlighted Kejriwal's critical health condition, emphasizing his vulnerability due to being diabetic for over 30 years. She alleged that the BJP’s actions were aimed at causing permanent damage to Kejriwal's health. Atishi also criticized the BJP for disseminating documents from the Tihar Jail administration that claimed Kejriwal’s health was stable.
"The BJP is attempting to damage Arvind Kejriwal's health permanently. His sugar levels are critical, and a drastic drop could be fatal," Atishi asserted. She further condemned the BJP for misleading the public with false information, maintaining that Tihar Jail's medical report indicates Kejriwal's ongoing health issues, including weight loss, body aches, and weakness.
Tihar Jail’s Response
In response to Atishi's claims, Tihar Jail authorities issued a statement denying the accusations. They emphasized that Kejriwal’s health is under constant surveillance by a medical board from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). According to their report to the Delhi government's Home Department, Kejriwal has lost only 2 kg during his time in custody, with stable vital signs and ongoing medical care, including the provision of home-cooked food.
The prison administration accused the AAP of disseminating misleading information to pressure the prison authorities. "The AAP's narrative is filled with false information aimed at browbeating the prison administration," the report stated, as quoted by PTI.
Political Implications
The dispute between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP over Kejriwal’s health reflects broader political tensions amid his incarceration. The conflicting reports from both sides highlight the ongoing volatility of the situation and underscore the complexities of political narratives surrounding health and incarceration. As the situation unfolds, it remains a significant point of contention in the political landscape, impacting public perception and the broader discourse surrounding Kejriwal’s imprisonment and health.
This controversy not only brings attention to Kejriwal’s health but also to the broader political and administrative conflicts between the AAP and BJP, with each side presenting contrasting views on the matter.
