Residents of Delhi woke up to a noticeably cooler Tuesday morning as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted cloudy skies and near-normal temperatures across the national capital.

Cooler Weather in Delhi

According to the India Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to hover between 32°C and 34°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to range between 14°C and 16°C.

The weather agency noted a recent dip in temperatures, with:

• Minimum temperatures falling by 3–5°C

• Maximum temperatures dropping by 1–2°C

Wind patterns are also expected to remain mild, with speeds around 10 kmph during the day, gradually decreasing in the evening.

Bengaluru Likely to Receive Rain

Meanwhile, Bengaluru is set for a different weather pattern. The city recorded a cooler start to the day with temperatures around 19°C.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted:

• Cloudy skies throughout the day

• Light rainfall later in the evening

• Maximum temperature around 33–34°C

• Minimum temperature near 20°C

Additionally, parts of Karnataka are expected to witness isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds until March 20.

Western Disturbance to Impact Northwest India

A key factor influencing current weather conditions is a fresh Western Disturbance, which is likely to affect northwest India starting the night of March 17.

This system is expected to bring:

• Rain and thunderstorms

• Lightning and gusty winds

• Hailstorms in some regions

The India Meteorological Department forecasts a gradual rise in temperatures by 3–5°C over the next three days, followed by a sharp fall of 4–7°C in subsequent days.

Rain and Snowfall Alerts

The weather system is also likely to bring significant precipitation across the Himalayan region:

• Heavy rainfall/snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh on March 19

• Similar conditions expected in Uttarakhand on March 20

Hailstorms are also likely in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the next few days.

Thunderstorm Activity Across India

Apart from the northwest, eastern regions are also expected to see weather activity.

• Thunderstorms with gusty winds in East India till March 19

• Heavy rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya on March 17

The India Meteorological Department also warned of possible thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50–70 kmph in some areas.

No Heatwave Expected

Despite fluctuating temperatures, the India Meteorological Department has clarified that no significant heatwave conditions are expected in the coming days.

Instead, widespread thunderstorm activity is likely to keep daytime temperatures normal to below normal for this period.
