On Friday, Dharma Productions delighted fans with the announcement of their much-anticipated film centered on C Sankaran Nair, a prominent figure in Indian legal history. The untitled film aims to reveal the "shocking cover-up of a massacre" that propelled India’s top barrister into the spotlight. Scheduled for release on March 14, 2025, the film will feature a stellar cast, including Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Nanya Panday.

Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the upcoming project is inspired by real-life events and is adapted from the book The Case That Shook The Empire, authored by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. This announcement adds to the excitement surrounding Dharma Productions as they delve into significant historical narratives through compelling storytelling.

Who was C Sankaran Nair?

Chettur Sankaran Nair was a distinguished lawyer and statesman who served as the Advocate General of Madras from 1906 to 1908. In 1897, he was elected president of the Indian National Congress and later authored the book Gandhi and Anarchy in 1922. The biopic on C Sankaran Nair was first announced by Dharma Productions in June 2021, with production commencing in November of the following year. Some reports suggest that the film may be titled Shankara.

In addition to the C Sankaran Nair biopic, Dharma Productions is currently showcasing Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt and Vedant Raina, which is now playing in cinemas. They are also preparing for Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, featuring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, scheduled for release on April 18, 2025. Another untitled project directed by Sandeep Modi is also in the pipeline, set to release on Independence Day next year.
