The Kolkata rape-murder case has taken a dramatic turn as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) detains a close aide of Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College. This development comes amid mounting controversy surrounding the tragic incident involving a trainee doctor's rape and murder.

A letter allegedly signed by Sandip Ghosh, dated August 10, has emerged, which suggests an attempt to alter the crime scene. This order directed urgent repairs and renovations in on-duty doctors' rooms at RG Kar Hospital, which has fueled further suspicion about the handling of the case. BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar has highlighted the letter in a recent post on X, emphasizing the timing of the order, which came just a day after the victim's death. Despite protests and allegations from colleagues, the Kolkata Police Commissioner has denied any tampering.

In response to the rising controversy, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has denied accusations of a police cover-up. They argue that a newly surfaced video shows the victim's family previously satisfied with the investigation, though the family claims the video was recorded under duress. Additionally, the family has criticized the Kolkata Police for allegedly hastening the cremation of the victim's body to suppress the case.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has urged both President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the widespread issue of crimes against women, noting that such cases are alarmingly frequent across India. Meanwhile, West Bengal education minister Bratya Basu has pointed out that despite the Kolkata Police submitting all relevant documents to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) 23 days ago, there has been no notable progress in the investigation.

The victim's body was discovered in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital on August 9, sparking nationwide protests. In the wake of the incident, a civic volunteer was arrested, and the CBI has also detained Sandip Ghosh for alleged financial misconduct related to the medical institution.
