The ongoing feud between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and U.S. President Donald Trump intensified yet again on July 7, 2025, after a fresh war of words erupted online. In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump slammed Musk for announcing his "America Party", a proposed third-party alternative, prompting Musk to respond on X (formerly Twitter) with sarcasm, claiming he had “never heard of” Truth Social.
The interaction started when Trump criticized Musk, saying he had gone "completely off the rails" and labeled him a "train wreck", blaming him for attempting to launch a third political party that could, according to Trump, lead to "disruption and chaos."
In response, Musk fired off a short but stinging retort:
"What’s Truth Social?"
"Never heard of it."
The sharp comments from both sides underscore what has become an increasingly hostile and personal rivalry, once masked by tentative public alliance. Musk’s dismissive comments appear to troll Trump’s efforts to promote Truth Social, the social media platform launched by Trump post his bans from major social platforms.
Trump’s Attack on Musk and the “America Party”
Trump didn’t hold back in his Truth Social post, expressing disappointment in Musk’s recent behavior.
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,” Trump wrote.
“He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States.”
Trump warned that such parties lead to "total disruption and chaos", particularly when the U.S. is already dealing with the fallout from “Radical Left Democrats.”
He further tied Musk’s frustrations to the newly passed Republican bill, which eliminates the Electric Vehicle (EV) mandate, a move that could hurt Tesla’s EV sales.
“Unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle Mandate,” Trump added, blaming Musk’s third-party ambitions on financial motives rather than political principles.
Musk's America Party and the Root of the Rift
On Saturday, July 5, 2025, Musk publicly announced his intention to form the "America Party", citing opposition to Trump’s massive tax cut and spending bill, which he said would bankrupt the country. While the announcement received mixed reactions, the idea of a third-party challenge to traditional Republican-Democratic dominance has stirred significant debate.
Musk has not yet officially registered the party with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), but his continued references to it suggest a deeper political ambition.
Despite this, political analysts argue that third parties face systemic challenges in U.S. politics, often dismissed as spoilers rather than serious contenders.
Netizens Call Out Musk's Sarcasm
After Musk claimed he had “never heard” of Truth Social, social media users were quick to dig up receipts. Several screenshots of past Musk posts discussing Truth Social’s ranking performance on the Apple Store went viral, showing that Musk had, at one point, praised Truth Social for outperforming X and TikTok.
Trump ally Laura Loomer posted:
“Elon Musk says he's never heard of Truth Social. However, he has made several posts in the past about President Trump’s Truth Social.”
One user even reposted a 2022 Musk tweet comparing Truth Social’s popularity to that of TikTok and X, making Musk’s sarcasm appear disingenuous or hypocritical.
The Bigger Picture: EV Mandates and Political Divides
Beneath the surface of this high-profile clash lies a deeper policy dispute. The recent Republican legislation—championed by Trump—scrapped the federal EV mandate, removing green energy incentives that have benefitted Tesla and other EV manufacturers.
Musk has long supported green innovation, and this bill represents a significant setback for the industry. In return, Musk has sharpened his political tone, increasingly aligning himself as independent of traditional party lines.
The "Big, Beautiful Bill", as Trump calls it, may have triggered Musk’s shift from political observer to active participant. While Musk had previously dabbled in political commentary, his creation of the America Party signals a dramatic escalation.
Trump vs Musk: A 2025 Political Soap Opera
What was once a mutual admiration has now devolved into public insult exchanges, policy clashes, and sarcastic digs. Trump supporters accuse Musk of hypocrisy and opportunism, while Musk’s defenders argue that he is being unfairly targeted for voicing valid concerns.
If the America Party becomes official, it could fracture the conservative vote ahead of the 2028 Presidential Elections, giving Democrats an advantage—or potentially opening doors for a new political realignment.
But until then, the Trump-Musk saga is likely to remain highly public, extremely vocal, and full of sharp jabs across multiple platforms—from Truth Social to X.
