In a shocking scam that has surfaced in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, authorities have seized fake Rs 500 currency notes featuring the face of Bollywood veteran actor Anupam Kher instead of the iconic Mahatma Gandhi. The counterfeit notes have ignited widespread attention on social media, with a video showing bundles of these fake notes circulating online. Reacting to the bizarre situation, Anupam Kher humorously commented, "Lo ji karlo baat, My photo instead of Gandhi's photo on the note of five hundred???? Anything can happen!" along with the video, adding a touch of humor to the shocking news.
Deets about the bizarre case
According to a report by The Indian Express, the fake currency notes were uncovered following a transaction involving a bullion firm owner named Mehul Thakkar. In a deal worth Rs 1.6 crore, Thakkar sent his employee, Bharat Joshi, to deliver 2,100 grams of gold. The arrangement came after a call from Prashant Patel, a jewellery shop manager known to Mehul.
Prashant had informed Mehul that the buyers were unable to transfer the full payment through RTGS immediately. Instead, they offered Rs 1.3 crore in cash and assured Mehul that the remaining Rs 30 lakh would be settled the following day. Trusting the arrangement, Mehul proceeded to deliver the gold to the suspects at a temporary office located in the Navrangpura area.
Upon arriving, Mehul was handed 26 bundles of counterfeit Rs 500 notes. The suspects instructed him to count the cash using a machine, which he initially began to do. However, upon closer inspection, Mehul was taken aback to discover that these notes featured Anupam Kher's picture in place of Gandhi's. Realizing he had been scammed, Mehul reported that the men had fled with the gold before he could take action.
Following the incident, Mehul filed a complaint at the Navrangpura police station on September 24. The local police have since launched an investigation, currently reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to identify and apprehend the suspects behind this audacious scam. Authorities have revealed that the perpetrators had established the temporary office just two days before the transaction, indicating a premeditated scheme to defraud Mehul.
As this strange case continues to unfold, it highlights the potential risks involved in high-stakes transactions and serves as a reminder to exercise caution. With law enforcement working diligently to crack the case, it remains to be seen how this bizarre tale will conclude.
