Following the antim bhog ceremony of farmer Shubhkaran Singh, who lost his life in clashes with security forces, farmer bodies leading the 'Delhi Challo' movement have announced plans to intensify their protest against the Modi government. They aim to reach Delhi through various means on March 6, challenging the government's stance on peaceful protests. Learn about the escalating tensions, demands for MSP, and the continuing struggle of farmers in India.

In the aftermath of the antim bhog ceremony for farmer Shubhkaran Singh, whose tragic death occurred during clashes with security forces, farmer organizations spearheading the 'Delhi Challo' movement have declared their intention to escalate the protest against the Modi government. Led by Jagjit Singh Dallewal of Samyukt Kisan Morcha, these groups plan to mobilize farmers to reach Delhi via train, bus, air, and foot on March 6, seeking to intensify pressure on the government.

The decision to adopt alternative means of transportation stems from the government's insistence on farmers marching to Delhi without their tractor-trolleys. Dallewal emphasized the significance of this shift in strategy, highlighting the need to test the government's response to peaceful protests.

Additionally, a one-day 'rail-roko' program is scheduled for March 10 as part of the ongoing protest, reflecting the determination of farmers to voice their demands for legal guarantees to Minimum Support Price (MSP). This key demand, promised by the Modi government during the withdrawal of three farm laws in 2020, remains unfulfilled, prompting farmers to resume their agitation.

The recent clashes between farmers and security forces at the Punjab-Haryana borders, resulting in casualties and injuries on both sides, have further fueled tensions. The death of Shubhkaran Singh has galvanized farmer communities, with his funeral delayed until Punjab police filed a murder case under pressure from farmer bodies.

Despite efforts by the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab to provide compensation and employment to the deceased farmer's family, the core demands of the protest remain centered around securing legal guarantees to MSP. Farmer leaders like Sarwan Singh Pandher of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee reaffirm their commitment to continue the protest until this demand is met, emphasizing its non-negotiable nature.

In the face of criticism from Punjab's BJP chief Sunil Jakhar, who questions the necessity of the protest given the existing MSP for wheat and paddy, farmer leaders remain resolute in their stance. The escalating tensions and steadfast determination of farmers underscore the urgency of addressing their grievances and ensuring a sustainable future for agriculture in India. Stay informed about the evolving developments and the impact of the farmers' protest on national discourse and policymaking.
