What's Covered Under the Article:

  • FASTag annual pass goes live today and allows 200 National Highway trips in a year for a one-time payment of ₹3,000.

  • Activation can be done through the Rajmarg Yatra app or the official NHAI / MoRTH websites with no need for a separate FASTag.

  • Step-by-step guide for activation and recharge, recharge eligibility, and details of where the pass is valid and how much users can save.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially launched the long-anticipated FASTag-based annual pass starting today. Priced at ₹3,000, the yearly FASTag plan allows private cars, jeeps and vans to cross up to 200 toll plazas on National Highways and National Expressways in a year without the hassle of topping up the FASTag wallet multiple times. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the initiative aims to provide commuters with uninterrupted access across toll booths and reduce long-term toll expenses.

Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has highlighted that frequent highway users who earlier spent nearly ₹10,000 annually on toll fees can now take the same 200 trips for just ₹3,000, potentially saving ₹7,000 every year. This pass is available to existing FASTag users, meaning commuters do not need a separate FASTag sticker—the existing FASTag ID can simply be upgraded through a one-time recharge and activation.

However, commuters must note that the annual pass is valid only on National Highways and National Expressways. On state highways or toll plazas managed by local bodies, the FASTag will function like a regular tag and normal toll charges will apply.

The annual pass can be activated online through a dedicated link available on the Rajmarg Yatra mobile application. The same link is also available on the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH. Once activated, the pass can be recharged again (with another ₹3,000 payment) only after the 200-trip limit is exhausted in the same year.

How to Activate / Recharge Your FASTag Annual Pass Online:

  1. Visit the official Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI / MoRTH websites.

  2. Log in using your existing FASTag ID and vehicle details.

  3. Select the Annual Pass Recharge option and pay ₹3,000 via UPI, credit/debit card, or net banking.

  4. The annual pass will be activated within four hours of completion and users will receive a confirmation SMS.

This unified toll-pass mechanism is designed to support smoother traffic movement on busy highways, reduce cash transactions at toll gates, and promote digital payments for road usage. With heavy year-round travel volumes, especially in metro-to-metro routes, the new annual FASTag pass is expected to become a financially attractive option for daily travellers, long-distance commuters, and regular inter-city travellers across the country.
