Pakistan has witnessed yet another major political flashpoint as police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Aleema Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, along with nearly 400 others for staging a protest outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The case has been registered under multiple provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act, significantly escalating the legal pressure on leaders and supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

According to media reports, the FIR was lodged at the Saddar police station, naming 35 individuals as nominated accused, while around 400 others have been listed as unidentified persons. Authorities allege that what began as a peaceful sit-in outside the high-security prison later turned violent, prompting police intervention and arrests.

Among those explicitly named in the FIR are Aleema Khan, Qasim Khan, Noreen Niazi, Aliya Hamza, and senior PTI leader Salman Akram Raja. Other nominated accused include Naeem Haider Panjotha, Tayyaba Raja, Tabish Farooq, Raja Asad Abbas, Nadia Khattak, Haroon, Zafar Gondal, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, and Shafqat Abbas. Investigators have also invoked Section 120, which pertains to criminal conspiracy to wage an attack against the state, indicating the seriousness with which authorities are treating the incident.

Police officials stated that 14 accused were arrested from the protest site late at night and were subsequently produced before an anti-terrorism court (ATC). The arrested individuals have been charged with violating Section 144, which prohibits public gatherings, and for allegedly attacking law enforcement personnel deployed to maintain order.

As per the FIR, the protesters allegedly raised slogans against the government and state institutions, blocked major roads near Adiala Jail, and incited other party workers, causing significant disruption to daily life for local residents. The complaint further alleges that demonstrators pelted stones and hurled glass bottles at police personnel, resulting in injuries and damage.

“The suspects raised slogans against the government and the state, blocked the road and interfered in the official duties of police personnel,” the FIR stated. Police officials claimed that repeated warnings were issued to disperse the crowd, but protesters allegedly continued their actions, forcing authorities to take legal action under stringent laws.

The protest was reportedly aimed at expressing solidarity with Imran Khan, who is currently lodged in Adiala Jail in connection with multiple legal cases. Over the past several weeks, frequent demonstrations outside the prison have heightened tensions between PTI supporters and the administration.

Meanwhile, developments around Imran Khan’s incarceration may take a new turn. According to senior Pakistani officials, the government is considering shifting Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to another prison due to what they describe as constant protest demonstrations outside the facility. A senior Punjab government official indicated that the provincial administration, in consultation with federal authorities, is expected to take a decision soon.

“The Punjab government is seriously considering shifting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan to some other prison due to constant protest demonstrations outside the Adiala Jail,” the official said. District Jail Attock has reportedly emerged as one of the possible alternatives.

The FIR against Imran Khan’s sisters and PTI leaders underscores the deepening political confrontation in Pakistan, where legal actions and street protests continue to shape the national landscape. Supporters of PTI view the cases as politically motivated, while the government maintains that law enforcement agencies are acting strictly in accordance with the law to preserve public order and security.

As the case moves forward in the anti-terrorism courts, it is expected to further intensify political debate and could have significant implications for PTI’s protest strategy, Imran Khan’s detention conditions, and the broader political stability of Pakistan in the coming months.
