  • FIR filed against Kejriwal in Haryana’s Kurukshetra over Yamuna water allegations.
  • AAP alleges BJP's role in poll-time controversy; Kejriwal accuses Haryana of poisoning Delhi’s water.
  • Election Commission issues notices to Kejriwal after BJP’s complaint over his remarks.

A political storm has erupted just a day before the Delhi Assembly elections as an FIR was lodged against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in Haryana's Kurukshetra district. The case, filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), stems from Kejriwal's recent allegations that the BJP-ruled Haryana government deliberately contaminated Yamuna water before it reached Delhi.

The FIR was registered following a court directive at the Shahabad police station in Kurukshetra, with the complainant, Jagmohan Manchanda, accusing Kejriwal of making false allegations and misleading the public.

The Yamuna Water Poison Row: What Led to the FIR?

The Yamuna water dispute has been a hot-button issue in Delhi politics, with Kejriwal alleging on January 27 that Haryana had mixed poison in Delhi's water supply through the Yamuna.

"Thanks to the Delhi Jal Board engineers, who caught it and stopped the water, it did not enter Delhi. If that water got mixed with drinking water, a mass genocide would have happened," Kejriwal claimed, blaming the BJP government.

The AAP leader further alleged that the BJP attempted to sabotage the water supply to create panic among residents and then blame AAP for a crisis.

In response, the BJP strongly denied the allegations, calling them "false and politically motivated" ahead of elections.

Legal Trouble for Kejriwal: Charges Under BNS

The FIR against Kejriwal includes multiple sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), namely 192, 196(1), 197(1), 248(a), and 299. These sections pertain to false statements, misleading information, and incitement.

Legal experts suggest that these charges could lead to a prolonged legal battle for the Delhi Chief Minister, further intensifying the political rivalry between AAP and BJP.

Election Commission Steps In: Notices Issued to Kejriwal

Following a complaint from the BJP, the Election Commission (EC) issued two notices to Arvind Kejriwal, seeking clarification on his controversial statements regarding Delhi’s water crisis. The EC is examining whether Kejriwal's remarks violate election norms and could influence voters just before polling.

AAP vs BJP: The Battle for Delhi Continues

The Yamuna water row has deepened the political divide between AAP and BJP, with both parties using the issue to sway public opinion ahead of the crucial Delhi elections.

  • AAP maintains that the FIR is a tactic to silence Kejriwal and divert attention from BJP’s governance failures in Haryana.
  • BJP argues that Kejriwal is spreading falsehoods to gain sympathy votes.

With polling set to begin, the legal battle and political drama surrounding this issue are expected to have a major impact on voter sentiment in Delhi.
