Patwari alleges political conspiracy and pressure by the ruling BJP government in Madhya Pradesh
In a politically charged development, an FIR has been registered against Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari for allegedly instigating caste hatred by coercing a man to falsely claim that he was fed human excreta during an assault in Ashok Nagar district. The case has triggered a major political storm in the state, raising questions about the misuse of caste-based narratives, media manipulation, and governmental overreach.
The complaint, which forms the basis of the FIR, was filed by a youth belonging to the Lodhi community, a resident of Moodra Barwah village. He initially alleged that he was assaulted and force-fed human faeces by the husband and son of the village sarpanch over a dispute related to a ration slip. This story gained widespread traction when Jitu Patwari personally met the victim and shared a video of their interaction on social media. During the meeting, Patwari also reportedly called the district collector and demanded immediate action.
However, in a dramatic twist, the Mungavali police station in-charge, Joginder Singh, stated that the youth retracted his claim about being fed excreta and instead clarified that while he was beaten up, no such act of being fed human faeces occurred. Singh added that Patwari misled the public by circulating the video and tried to spread animosity among caste communities, instigating social unrest and threatening to disturb public peace.
The police have registered the case against Jitu Patwari under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), India’s new criminal code, which replaced parts of the IPC earlier in the year. Charges include spreading enmity, attempting to disrupt peace, and manipulating public perception for political gain.
Adding to the controversy, the youth also claimed in his FIR that Patwari offered him a motorcycle and financial aid for his family in exchange for making the false allegation. This has intensified scrutiny on the Congress leader’s motives and the authenticity of his earlier activism in the case.
Reacting strongly to the FIR, Jitu Patwari issued a public statement accusing the ruling BJP-led government in Madhya Pradesh of misusing state machinery to frame him and silence voices that speak up for the oppressed. He termed the FIR as “proof of dictatorship” and said it was part of a deep conspiracy to defame opposition leaders and bury the truth.
Patwari further pointed out that the youth's retraction came two days after the matter hit headlines, and he had submitted an affidavit to the district collector, alleging that he had made the claims under political pressure. “The role of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s government is evident in how the narrative changed overnight,” Patwari said, alleging that the state government used intimidation tactics to reverse the victim’s stance.
According to Patwari, the original video and the statements made by the youth during their meeting reflected a genuine concern and suffering, which has now been twisted under pressure. “This isn’t just a fight for one person,” he stated. “It’s about exposing how state power is being used to control the narrative and suppress dissent.”
The case is now under intense political and media scrutiny. The Congress party has rallied behind Patwari, accusing the BJP government of vendetta politics, while the ruling party defends the FIR as a necessary legal action against fabrication and incitement.
Meanwhile, the Ashok Nagar assault case remains under investigation, with the focus shifting not only on the incident but also on how it was used—or allegedly manipulated—for political mileage. Legal experts suggest that this case could become a litmus test for how caste-related claims are handled in the era of social media activism, and the blurring lines between truth and political theatre.
From a legal standpoint, the invocation of sections under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita also indicates a shift in law enforcement response to politically sensitive cases. Analysts believe this could set a precedent for how public leaders’ actions on social platforms are examined in the context of communal harmony and public order.
Political observers point out that Jitu Patwari, a rising Congress leader in Madhya Pradesh, has often taken strong stands against the state administration, making him a frequent target of political retaliation. The FIR could serve both as a deterrent for political activism and a symbol of the increasing tension between ruling parties and opposition figures across India.
As the state gears up for future elections, this case is likely to become a campaign flashpoint, with both the Congress and the BJP using it to appeal to their respective voter bases. While Congress alleges state-sponsored repression, BJP leaders argue that public trust must not be violated through false narratives that risk triggering caste-based violence.
Currently, investigations are ongoing, and the police have not yet made further arrests or confirmed additional details about the alleged bribery. The focus remains on whether the FIR and accompanying affidavit were part of a politically motivated retraction, or if the original video and claims were indeed fabricated under Congress pressure.
In summary, the FIR against MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari for allegedly forcing a man to falsely claim caste atrocity has become a hot-button issue in Madhya Pradesh. With the police denying the excreta claim, and Patwari alleging government pressure and political conspiracy, the case continues to unfold with significant implications for caste politics, freedom of speech, and electoral narratives in India.
