A fresh encounter broke out in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir on the night of April 1, 2025, after a police team came under fire from terrorists during a combing operation in the Panjtirthi area of the Ramkote belt. According to official sources, three terrorists are now trapped in a forest area, prompting a large-scale operation by security forces to neutralize the threat.

The operation began on the night of March 31, when a police team, part of a routine combing operation, came under fire. This led to a confrontation with the terrorists, who fled into the dense forests of the Rajbagh region. Security forces quickly established a night cordon to prevent the terrorists from escaping and began intensifying their efforts to locate and neutralize them.

Ongoing Search Operation

The search operation has been significantly bolstered with the help of aerial surveillance and sniffer dogs, which are aiding the forces in locating the terrorists within the forest belts of Rui, Juthana, Ghati, and Sanyal in the Rajbagh region, as well as parts of Billawar. The security forces are working diligently to neutralize the three terrorists trapped in the area.

Authorities’ Commitment to the Operation

Speaking to reporters, Deputy Inspector General Shiv Kumar Sharma assured the public that the operation would continue until the last terrorist was neutralized. He emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir Police would continue their efforts to eradicate terrorism in the region. Sharma urged local residents to report any suspicious activities to assist in the operation.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of Jammu and Kashmir. As long as there is even one terrorist left, our forces will not relent in their mission,” Sharma said.

Previous Terrorist Activity in the Region

This is the third encounter between security forces and terrorists in the region in the past eight days. On March 23, terrorists and police faced off in the Nursery area near the International Border, where the terrorists managed to escape. The authorities have detained six individuals, all members of the Mohammad Latief family, who were allegedly involved in providing shelter and guidance to terrorists. Latief, an overground worker, is currently in jail under the Public Safety Act for his role in the Malhar attack that resulted in the deaths of six Army personnel last year.
