• Gujarat Titans openers Gill and Sudharsan chase down 200-run target without loss to secure playoffs with 10-wicket win over Delhi Capitals
• Sai Sudharsan smashes unbeaten 108 and Gill scores 93 in record stand, overshadowing Rahul's 112-run effort for Delhi
• Result also confirms playoff berths for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings as IPL 2025 heads into knockout stage

On a calm night at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Gujarat Titans turned a high-pressure chase into a majestic exhibition of batting as Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan dismantled Delhi Capitals with clinical ease. Chasing a daunting 200-run target, the GT openers stitched an unbeaten 205-run stand, securing a 10-wicket victory and booking their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs.

This dominant display not only silenced the home crowd but also overshadowed a brilliant unbeaten century by K L Rahul, who had earlier anchored Delhi’s innings with 112 off 65 balls. Despite Rahul’s best efforts, it was the precision strokeplay and unrelenting momentum from the Gujarat openers that stole the show.

Sai Sudharsan leads from the front

The 23-year-old Sai Sudharsan wasted no time asserting dominance, launching a blistering attack in the PowerPlay. After a quiet first over, he hammered 20 runs off T Natarajan's second over, exploiting the bowler’s shorter lengths with surgical efficiency. By the time the PowerPlay ended, GT had raced to 59 without loss, and Sudharsan was already into the 40s.

He kept the scoreboard ticking with finesse, picking gaps with ease and rarely letting Delhi’s bowlers settle. His century came off just 55 balls, brought up in style with a towering six down the ground off Kuldeep Yadav. It was his second IPL hundred and arguably the most impactful of his career so far.

Gill grows into the innings

While Sudharsan stole the initial spotlight, Shubman Gill played the perfect foil. The GT skipper soaked in the early pressure, rotated strike intelligently, and slowly switched gears as the innings progressed. Once set, Gill began to show his class — dispatching Axar Patel for two sixes and targeting Delhi’s spin trio with clinical aggression.

Gill’s 93 off 48 balls was a masterclass in measured acceleration. His strokeplay was marked by elegance and brute force in equal parts. By the final overs, Delhi had run out of ideas, and their bowlers could only watch as Gujarat stormed past the finish line with 11 balls to spare.

K L Rahul’s brilliance in vain

Earlier in the evening, Delhi Capitals were buoyed by K L Rahul’s unbeaten 112, a knock of rare composure and authority. Opening the innings, Rahul dominated Gujarat’s bowling with a mix of classical drives and power hitting. He was particularly severe on Kagiso Rabada, who returned to competitive action after a doping suspension.

In the sixth over, Rahul dispatched Rabada for two sixes. He followed it up with another expensive over that saw Rabada’s figures balloon to 2-0-34-0, reflecting the batter’s dominance. Supported by cameos from the middle order, Rahul carried Delhi to a formidable 199 for 3.

Yet, the joy was short-lived. As Delhi’s bowlers struggled for control in the second innings, Rahul could only watch as the target he had helped set was effortlessly erased by a historic GT opening stand.

Playoff picture becomes clearer

Gujarat’s emphatic win had ripple effects beyond the result itself. With this victory, GT confirmed their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs, joining the top four. The Net Run Rate boost from such a comprehensive win also bolstered their chances of a top-two finish, which comes with a qualifier advantage.

Meanwhile, the outcome also confirmed playoff berths for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, who mathematically sealed qualification due to Delhi’s defeat. The battle now intensifies for the final playoff spot among the chasing pack, making the final league games even more crucial.

A night to remember

The match served as a reminder of why Gujarat Titans remain one of the most complete sides in the tournament. Their openers have been consistently dominant, their bowling unit clinical, and their leadership under Gill remarkably stable.

Sudharsan’s knock, in particular, signals the rise of another dependable Indian batter, whose composure and shot selection have matured in this IPL season. Gill’s ability to shift gears without taking undue risks underlines why he’s touted as a future all-format captain.

For Delhi, this was a bitter pill to swallow. Despite a superb individual performance from Rahul, the team failed to show up with the ball. Their playoff hopes now hang by a thread, and they will need not just wins, but favorable results from other fixtures to keep their campaign alive.
