As the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 approach, intra-alliance tensions within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are emerging over seat-sharing arrangements. BJP leader Giriraj Singh took aim at parties that flaunt high electoral “strike rates,” suggesting that such focus overlooks the dedication and work of grassroots party workers. Speaking to India TV, Singh emphasized that political leadership must reflect the voice of party workers rather than be obsessed with past performance or numerical “strike rates.”

Singh’s comments are widely interpreted as a veiled criticism of Chirag Paswan and his Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), which has previously highlighted its perfect winning record from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Giriraj mocked the “strike rate jingle” on social media, citing the NDA’s commanding 2010 victories — where BJP won 91 of 102 seats (strike rate 89%) and JD(U) won 115 of 141 seats (strike rate 81%) — as benchmarks yet to be matched.

Officially, the NDA has finalized the seat-sharing formula for Bihar’s 243 Assembly seats:

• BJP: 101

• JD(U): 101

• LJP (Ram Vilas): 29

• Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM): 6

• Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM): 6

Despite this allocation, the official candidate list has not yet been released, reportedly due to disagreements over which party gets which key constituencies. Party sources indicate that negotiations continue as both BJP and JD(U) aim to retain control over strongholds while accommodating allies.

Singh’s remarks highlight the underlying friction within NDA ranks and signal that the alliance is attempting to balance headline electoral performance with the recognition of grassroots worker efforts. Analysts suggest that this internal scrutiny could influence candidate selection and campaign strategies as the Bihar elections draw closer, particularly with Chirag Paswan’s LJP seeking to assert its influence despite a smaller seat share.

The upcoming Bihar polls are poised to test NDA’s cohesion, and Singh’s comments suggest that leadership is keen to remind allies that numerical strike rates do not always translate into lasting political influence. With the election countdown underway, these veiled criticisms could shape pre-poll narratives and inter-party negotiations within the alliance.
