Shimla, March 3, 2025 – The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh for March 3, with thunderstorms and lightning expected in isolated locations across the state. The alert is a result of the previous heavy precipitation on February 26, 27, and 28, which affected several regions in Himachal.

Impact of Previous Weather and Ongoing Restoration Efforts

Heavy rain and snow earlier in the week have caused widespread disruption. 365 roads remain closed, including three national highways, as well as 1,377 power transformers and 269 water supply schemes have been affected.

Despite these challenges, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi confirmed that restoration works are progressing with full speed. He also mentioned that avalanches had been reported in some areas, but fortunately, there were no major casualties or property damage. However, Sant Ram, a local resident, fell into Jodh Nallah near Saach in the Pangi Valley, but was rescued by locals and airlifted to a hospital in Kullu.

Weather in Himachal Pradesh: March 2, 2025

While parts of the state experienced light rainfall, places like Aghar, Pachhad, Jaton Barrage, Kufri, and Chamba recorded measurable rainfall, with Chamba receiving 2 mm. The weather remained dry in most of the state, and the region enjoyed a clear day with bright sunshine, providing relief after the inclement weather of the past few days.

The maximum temperature in Una reached 28.4°C, making it the hottest place in the state, while the minimum temperature in Keylong plummeted to -11.8°C, making it the coldest place in the state.

IMD's Forecast for March 3 and Beyond

The IMD has predicted light to moderate rain or snow at isolated places in the state on March 3. For March 4, moderate rain or snow is expected at many places. However, the weather is expected to be dry from March 5 to March 8, providing a break from the ongoing precipitation.

This weather pattern has caused significant challenges, but restoration work is ongoing as Himachal Pradesh prepares for further rainfall and snowfall.
