Hindustan Zinc, a global leader in integrated zinc-lead-silver production, underscores its commitment to environmental sustainability by achieving a significant milestone: a 14% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity compared to the base year 2020. Recognized as the world’s most sustainable company in the metals and mining sector by S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2023, Hindustan Zinc continues to make strides towards decarbonization and Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) validated targets to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Carbon Footprint Reduction:

In line with its overarching vision and Vedanta’s sustainability framework, Hindustan Zinc adopts a two-pronged approach to mitigate and offset its carbon footprint. To mitigate emissions, the company increases the use of renewable energy in its energy mix, improves operational efficiency, and deploys battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in mines and logistics. Additionally, Hindustan Zinc conducts massive afforestation drives, pledging to plant over 1 million saplings by 2025 across its operational units, in alignment with Vedanta’s commitment to plant 7 million trees as part of the World Economic Forum’s 1 Trillion Trees movement.

Sustainability Initiatives:

CEO Arun Misra emphasizes sustainability as a core tenet guiding all business decisions, acknowledging the urgency of addressing climate change. Hindustan Zinc commemorates World Environment Day with a mass plantation drive, pledging to plant over 100,000 saplings and engaging stakeholders through environmental awareness activities. The company's efforts have earned it a prestigious Leadership Band (A-) designation by CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) for exemplary efforts in water security and climate change.

Through its proactive approach to sustainability, Hindustan Zinc sets a benchmark for environmental stewardship, driving positive change in its operations and beyond.
