Hyundai has introduced its latest addition to the electric vehicle lineup with the Inster EV, a compact yet spacious micro SUV based on the modified platform of the Casper sub-compact SUV. This all-electric vehicle is designed to combine the appeal of its internal combustion engine counterpart with enhanced dimensions and electric capabilities.

Design and Exterior Features

The Hyundai Inster EV draws inspiration from the Casper, featuring distinctive circular LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) with pixel-themed turn indicators integrated into a sleek black bar. A prominent black rectangular piece houses the front camera, ADAS sensor, and charging port, adding a modern-retro blend to its exterior aesthetics. Chunky wheel arches, pillar-mounted rear door handles, roof rails, and sharp creases enhance its robust appearance.

At the rear, the Inster EV impresses with bold pixel-themed taillights spanning the width, complemented by circular taillamps and integrated parking lights. An integrated spoiler, diffuser, and shark fin antenna complete the dynamic design.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Inster EV features a unique retro-inspired design, marked by quirky air-con vents and a modern dashboard layout. It offers advanced amenities including twin 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, automatic climate control, wireless charger, three-spoke steering wheel with drive mode selector, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Other notable features include a 360-degree surround camera, blind spot monitor, sunroof, and stylish interior finishes.

Performance and Battery Options

Hyundai offers two battery pack options for the Inster EV: a 42kWh pack delivering 95bhp and a larger 49kWh pack offering 113bhp with 147Nm torque. Both packs use nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) chemistry and include a heat pump for efficient operation. The vehicle supports rapid DC charging up to 85kW, enhancing convenience for users.

The smaller 42kWh battery provides a claimed range of approximately 300km, accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 11.7 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 140kph. Meanwhile, the larger 49kWh battery extends the range to 350km, accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 10.6 seconds, and achieves a top speed of 150kph.

Market Expectations and Launch

While details on the India launch are yet to be announced, Hyundai is expected to introduce the Inster EV following the debut of the Creta EV in the market. Positioned to compete with models like the Citroen eC3 and Punch EV, the Inster EV aims to capture the growing demand for electric vehicles in India's competitive automotive landscape.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Hyundai Inster EV represents a significant leap in Hyundai's electric vehicle portfolio, offering a blend of retro design elements, advanced technology features, and robust performance capabilities. With its spacious interior, efficient electric drivetrain, and anticipated market entry, the Inster EV is poised to make a notable impact in the micro SUV segment, catering to environmentally conscious consumers seeking innovation and style in their vehicle choices.
