The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has once again raised alarms over the ongoing monsoon conditions, issuing multiple alerts across northern, central, and southern states of India. On Thursday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted across several states, raising concerns over flooding, landslides, and waterlogging.

In Uttarakhand, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, warning residents of intense showers that could trigger flash floods and landslides. The state has already been witnessing relentless rainfall over the past few days, affecting connectivity and normal life. Additionally, a yellow alert has been sounded in several other districts, including Uttarkashi, Tehri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Pauri Garhwal, Haridwar, Almora, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Champawat, where moderate rainfall is expected.

Neighboring Himachal Pradesh, which has been battered by multiple landslides and flash floods this season, is also on alert. The IMD has predicted moderate rainfall and issued a yellow alert for Solan and Sirmaur districts. The state has seen widespread destruction, with roads blocked, villages cut off, and fatalities reported from weather-related disasters.

In Punjab, the flood situation continues to remain severe. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Gurdaspur and Pathankot, forecasting moderate rainfall. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann confirmed that 2,000 people were evacuated from Ferozepur in the last two days due to rising floodwaters, while Hoshiarpur district saw over 8,000 acres of farmland in 44 villages submerged. Relief and rescue operations by the Army, NDRF, and local authorities are ongoing.

In Haryana, the weather department has issued a yellow alert for Yamunanagar and Ambala, predicting moderate rainfall that could worsen local flooding situations.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed devastating rains in recent days, though no new alert has been issued for Thursday. The union territory continues to struggle with the aftermath of flash floods and landslides, with the death toll climbing to 41 and over 10,000 people evacuated.

In Delhi-NCR, more showers are expected, which may worsen traffic congestion and waterlogging. The Yamuna River reached 205.35 metres at the Old Railway Bridge on Wednesday, crossing the danger mark of 205.33 metres. Officials reported that the water level has remained above the warning mark of 204.50 metres for two consecutive days, heightening the risk of flooding in low-lying areas of the capital.

The rainfall warnings are not limited to the northern states. The IMD has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of South and Central India, particularly in coastal Karnataka, central Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Telangana. These regions are likely to face severe waterlogging, crop damage, and disruptions in transport.

The situation underscores the intensity of this year’s monsoon, with states across the country battling weather-related disasters. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official advisories. Relief operations are expected to continue in affected regions until the situation stabilizes.
