As of 8 AM on Monday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has confirmed that India's active Covid-19 cases have risen to 3,961, reflecting a noticeable uptick in daily infections across several states. 203 new cases were recorded since Sunday, and four more deaths were reported, taking the cumulative Covid-19 deaths in India since January 2025 to 32.
State-wise Breakdown of Rising Cases and Deaths
Several states reported new Covid-19 infections and deaths, raising concern among health officials and authorities.
-
Delhi:
Delhi reported 47 new cases, increasing the national capital’s total active case count to 483. It also reported one death, adding to the concern amid rising numbers in urban centres. -
Kerala:
Kerala continued to be among the worst-hit, with 35 new cases, raising its active caseload to 1,435. The state also reported one death. -

Central Government’s Response and Preparedness
Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH (Independent Charge), Prataprao Jadhav, reassured the public that the central government is fully prepared to tackle any Covid-19 resurgence.
"Both our Central Health Department and the AYUSH Ministry are closely monitoring the Covid situation across all states," Jadhav told ANI.
He also emphasized that the infrastructure built during earlier Covid waves — such as oxygen plants, ICU beds, and healthcare supplies — has been reviewed and updated as needed.
"Our health systems are well-equipped and ready to handle any situation that may arise in response to Covid," he said.
Precautionary Steps by States: Karnataka Takes Initiative
As a preventive step, the Karnataka Health Department has issued a circular advising all government and private schools to take necessary precautions to protect schoolchildren from Covid-19.
The advisory includes the following directives:
-
If children develop fever, cough, cold, or any flu-like symptoms, they should not be sent to school.
-
Parents and schools are urged to consult doctors immediately and ensure proper treatment and isolation.
-
Schools are encouraged to promote hygiene practices, such as handwashing and mask usage, particularly during indoor gatherings.
These steps are aimed at reducing the transmission among vulnerable groups like children and elderly citizens.
Why This Spike Matters Now
While the numbers are relatively low compared to previous waves, the sudden surge in multiple states, combined with deaths being reported again, raises red flags. Health experts caution against complacency, especially as seasonal flu overlaps with potential Covid symptoms, making it harder to detect early infections without testing.
Moreover, the international landscape is also being watched closely. Any rise in cases in neighboring countries or a new variant detection globally could impact India’s outlook, prompting stricter travel and public health measures.
Health Ministry’s Advisory to Public
The Ministry has urged citizens to follow basic preventive protocols, including:
-
Wearing masks in crowded or indoor settings
-
Maintaining physical distance, especially in vulnerable zones
-
Sanitizing hands frequently
-
Seeking immediate medical help if flu-like symptoms appear
-
Avoiding self-medication, and consulting certified doctors
The Health Ministry has also reiterated that vaccination remains key, especially for the elderly and immunocompromised groups. Citizens are encouraged to get booster doses where applicable.
Vaccination and Hospital Preparedness
India’s extensive vaccination infrastructure and emergency medical facilities built during the previous waves remain operational. Several oxygen plants and ventilator-equipped ICU beds are on standby, especially in metro cities and tier-1 hospitals.
Moreover, AYUSH-integrated treatment guidelines are also in place, promoting a holistic approach that includes immunity boosters, herbal treatments, and mental wellness support.
What to Expect in the Coming Weeks
-
Increased testing and surveillance in sensitive areas
-
Reactivation of Covid-19 helplines and rapid response teams
-
School and college monitoring as educational institutions reopen for new terms
-
Review of Covid SOPs for public gatherings, transport, and hospitals
The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the recent spike is temporary or part of a larger trend. Authorities are expected to hold state-wise review meetings to assess on-ground preparedness.
Conclusion: Stay Cautious, Not Fearful
Although the current spike in Covid-19 cases is not alarming in scale, it is a reminder that the virus is still active and capable of resurfacing in waves. The combination of public vigilance and government readiness is vital to avoiding another major outbreak.
Citizens are urged to remain calm, follow health advisories, and cooperate with local authorities. With proper action, India can manage the current wave and protect public health effectively.
