Rain forecasts raise concerns about the match's outcome, with potential impacts on India's World Test Championship points.
Enhanced security measures are implemented following protests planned by the Akhilesh Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha.
Following an impressive victory over Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test in Chennai, the Indian cricket team is set to face their opponents once again in the second and final Test scheduled to commence on September 27 in Kanpur. With aspirations to secure a 2-0 series win, India is keen to maintain its dominance in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC). However, the looming threat of inclement weather could significantly impact the match.
Rain Threatens the Test Match:
Despite the players' determination during their practice session, which was interrupted by heavy rain, the weather forecast for the initial days of the Test is not promising. Continuous rain is anticipated through Sunday, which poses a challenge for both teams and casts doubt on the potential outcome of the match. A draw would adversely affect India's Points Percentage (PCT), which currently stands at 71.67. India, atop the points table, faces a crucial juncture as they aim to navigate through the upcoming eight Test matches in this WTC cycle.
As favorites to secure a clean sweep, India must be wary of a potential draw that could lead to missed opportunities for extending their lead in the WTC standings. Maintaining a PCT above 60 is essential, especially with the daunting five-match Test series against Australia awaiting in their schedule.
Security Arrangements in Kanpur:
In light of potential protests, comprehensive security measures have been instituted for the second Test. According to ACP Harish Chander, a formal complaint was lodged against 20 members of the Akhilesh Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha for allegedly planning a havan and attempting to block roads near the stadium in protest against Bangladesh.
"We are reviewing the security arrangements to leave no stone unturned and are confident of deploying adequate police forces to meet the requirements," ACP Harish Chander stated. This proactive approach aims to ensure a secure environment for players and fans alike during the Test match.
As fans gear up for what promises to be an exciting clash, they remain hopeful that the rain holds off, allowing for a thrilling contest on the field. The second Test not only represents a chance for India to cement their dominance over Bangladesh but also serves as a vital fixture in the ongoing World Test Championship.
