On October 14, 2025, India strongly criticized Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during the session on the Promotion and Protection of Child Rights, highlighting serious violations under the UN agenda on Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC). Speaking on behalf of India, BJP Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey thanked the UN for acknowledging India’s efforts in child protection, citing initiatives such as Child Helpline 1098, which provides emergency assistance to children in distress, and Ujjwala Yojana, focused on preventing child trafficking and rescuing exploited children. These programs were commended by the UN Special Rapporteur for their effectiveness and reach.
Dubey condemned Pakistan as one of the most serious violators of child rights under the UNCAAC framework. He highlighted the 2025 UN Secretary-General’s report, which documents Pakistan’s attacks on schools and health workers, particularly targeting girls’ schools, as well as cross-border shelling and airstrikes along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, resulting in child casualties. He argued that Pakistan repeatedly tries to divert international attention from abuses within its own territory, while continuing to engage in terrorist activities across borders, including India.
The BJP leader referenced the April 22, 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 civilian lives, and described Operation Sindoor, India’s surgical strikes against terrorist hideouts in May 2025, as a “considered and balanced response” to terrorism. He contrasted this with Pakistan’s deliberate attacks on Indian border villages that caused civilian deaths, emphasizing the disproportionate and deliberate nature of Pakistan’s actions.
Dubey concluded by urging Pakistan to “look at itself in the mirror” and take responsibility for protecting children within its own borders. He stressed that Pakistan must end its targeting of civilians, particularly women and children, and refrain from lecturing the international community while failing to address internal violations. India’s strong stance at the UNGA underscores its commitment to protecting child rights, ensuring accountability for cross-border attacks, and promoting regional peace and security.
