In a decisive and strongly-worded intervention at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India slammed Pakistan for misrepresenting Operation Sindoor, normalising terrorism, and repeatedly using terror as a tool of statecraft. Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, delivered a pointed rebuttal to Pakistan’s envoy, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, who had attempted to link Operation Sindoor, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Indus Waters Treaty to alleged violations of international law.

Ambassador Harish categorically stated that Pakistan’s account of Operation Sindoor is false and self-serving, emphasizing that the Indian operation was a direct, calibrated, and responsible response to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 innocent civilians. He reminded the Council that the UNSC itself had condemned the attack, calling for justice against the perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors. India acted precisely in line with this mandate, Harish said, stressing that terrorism can never be normalised, contrary to Pakistan’s intentions.

Harish further elaborated that Operation Sindoor was a measured military response, aimed solely at dismantling terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The Indian envoy highlighted that the operation was non-escalatory; once Pakistan’s military directly contacted Indian forces, hostilities were halted. Addressing the Indus Waters Treaty, Harish clarified that India entered the agreement 65 years ago with goodwill, but Pakistan has repeatedly violated the spirit of the treaty by engaging in wars and sponsoring thousands of terror attacks. In response to the Pahalgam attack, India has now put the treaty in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irreversibly ends cross-border terrorism, asserting India’s right to safeguard its water and security interests.

Ambassador Harish also flagged Pakistan’s erosion of rule of law, urging the country to introspect on its internal governance. He highlighted the 27th Amendment to Pakistan’s constitution, which grants lifelong immunity to the Chief of Defence Forces, as evidence of military-driven constitutional manipulation, further undermining Pakistan’s credibility on the international stage.
