India Launches 'Operation Sadbhav' to Aid Typhoon Yagi Affected Countries

On September 16, 2024, India launched 'Operation Sadbhav', a major humanitarian initiative to assist countries affected by Typhoon Yagi. This operation underscores India's commitment to disaster relief and humanitarian assistance in the ASEAN region, aligning with its broader foreign policy objectives.

As part of Operation Sadbhav, the Indian Navy's INS Satpura has been deployed to Myanmar, carrying 10 tons of relief aid. The aid includes essential items such as water purifiers, blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen sets, and solar-powered lamps. These items are crucial for addressing immediate needs in the aftermath of the typhoon, which has caused significant damage and displacement in affected areas.

In addition to the efforts in Myanmar, the Indian Air Force has facilitated the airlifting of 35 tons of relief supplies to Vietnam. This aid similarly comprises essential goods designed to support the typhoon's affected population.

India has also extended its support to Laos, providing US$100,000 in emergency flood relief. This financial assistance aims to help the country manage the impact of the floods and support recovery efforts.

The launch of Operation Sadbhav reflects India's proactive approach to international humanitarian issues and disaster response. The initiative not only delivers immediate aid but also strengthens India's role as a key player in regional and global humanitarian efforts.
