India-Pakistan Ceasefire: Centre Sends Delegations, Trump Calls It Major Win

  • India to send all-party teams to key regions with anti-terror message post ceasefire with Pakistan

  • Trump claims key role in defusing India-Pak tensions, calls it his biggest unsung success

  • Shehbaz Sharif urges peaceful India-Pak talks, admits wars achieved nothing

In the aftermath of the dramatic India-Pakistan ceasefire, the Indian government has announced a major diplomatic outreach initiative by sending seven all-party delegations to key partner nations, including those in Europe, West Asia, and Africa. The mission is to amplify India’s message against terrorism and clarify its stance on the recent border conflict with Pakistan.

This move by the Centre follows a series of intense diplomatic and military developments that had threatened to escalate into a full-scale war between two nuclear-armed nations. While India has maintained a firm stance against terrorism and cross-border infiltration, the ceasefire has created space for measured diplomatic engagements.

At the same time, former U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed credit for helping defuse the situation, calling it a “bigger success than I’ll ever be given credit for.”

“Those are major nuclear powers. Those are not like a little bit, and they were angry,” Trump told Fox News on May 16, 2025. He added that his communication with both nations brought them “back from the brink,” and suggested that the next phase could have been nuclear conflict had there been no intervention.

Centre Launches Global Anti-Terror Outreach

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that the government is coordinating with leaders across political parties, including the opposition, to ensure bipartisan representation in these foreign delegations.

According to government sources, leaders from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as well as opposition parties have agreed to participate, signalling rare unity on a matter of national security.

The objective of the delegations is to counter international narratives that may arise due to Pakistan’s global lobbying and to highlight India’s position as a responsible power combatting terrorism.

The delegations will focus on:

  • Explaining India's actions during the recent conflict in the context of national defence and anti-terror operations

  • Condemning Pakistan's continued support for terror organisations

  • Showcasing India’s commitment to peace through diplomacy, not appeasement

Pakistan Observes ‘Youm-e-Tashakur’, Sharif Calls for Talks

Across the border, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation on Friday night during a ‘Youm-e-Tashakur’ (Day of Thanks) celebration organised to honour the military’s role in the ceasefire.

Sharif made a rare public call for dialogue, urging India to sit down and resolve longstanding disputes through peaceful means, including the Kashmir issue.

“We have fought three wars and achieved nothing,” said Sharif, adding that Pakistan is ready to “live like peaceful neighbours” with India, provided mutual respect and sincere diplomacy are in place.

This marked a notable shift in rhetoric from Islamabad, although many Indian strategic experts have cautioned against taking the statement at face value, pointing to Pakistan’s history of backtracking and covert provocations.

Rajnath Singh Warns IMF Funds Could Fuel Terror

Meanwhile, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh issued a strong warning, saying that Pakistan may misuse international financial aid, including recent IMF disbursements, to fund terrorism rather than economic reform.

“The global community must ensure that funds given to Pakistan are not used to sponsor violence or destabilise the region,” Singh said, further reinforcing India’s call for global accountability.

His statement echoes concerns raised in several global think tanks about financial misuse by states that support non-state actors under the guise of development funding.

Trump's Claim Draws Global Reactions

Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that he prevented a nuclear war between India and Pakistan drew mixed reactions worldwide. Speaking to Fox News, Trump said:

“There was great hatred between the two countries. I talked to both, and I know it could have gone nuclear. That’s the reality.”

While the exact nature of Trump's involvement remains unclear, reports suggest that backchannel diplomacy involving American and European intermediaries did play a role in de-escalation.

Indian and Pakistani officials have neither confirmed nor denied the extent of Trump’s direct role, but many observers believe his comments were meant to boost his foreign policy credentials during an election year in the U.S.

All-Party Consensus a Rare Show of Unity in India

The decision to form and send bipartisan delegations has been widely welcomed in Indian political circles. Opposition leaders, often at loggerheads with the government, acknowledged the gravity of the situation and agreed that international opinion must favour India’s counterterrorism framework.

“On matters of national security and foreign policy, we must stand united,” said a senior opposition MP who agreed to be part of one such delegation.

This marks a rare alignment across party lines and indicates a shift in Indian diplomacy, with a more aggressive stance against both terrorism and global misinformation.
