What's covered under the Article:

  • India slammed Pakistan at UNHRC, calling it a failed state thriving on international handouts.
  • India reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of the country.
  • India criticized Pakistan’s human rights abuses, persecution of minorities, and support for terrorism.

In a strong statement delivered at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), India has once again voiced its concerns over Pakistan's actions on the global stage. During the seventh session of the 58th UNHRC, Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi unleashed a scathing attack on Pakistan, labelling it as a "failed state" that thrives on instability and survives through international handouts. Tyagi condemned Pakistan for perpetuating a narrative built on falsehoods promoted by its military-terrorism complex.

This statement came as a response to Pakistan's ongoing attempts to spread propaganda at the UN, which India argues is designed to undermine India's sovereignty and stoke tension in the region. Tyagi pointed out that Pakistan has abused the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to serve as a mouthpiece for its false claims and misinformation. He emphasized that such behaviour not only wastes valuable time but also distracts the international community from real human rights issues.

One of the primary points of focus during India's address was the status of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh. Reaffirming India's position, Tyagi made it clear that both regions remain integral and inalienable parts of India, no matter the narrative propagated by Pakistan. He highlighted the political, social, and economic advancements made in J&K in recent years, particularly after India’s reorganization of the state in 2019, which has brought much-needed development and stability to the region. This progress, Tyagi stated, is a testament to the people's trust in the government’s efforts to bring normalcy to an area scarred by decades of terrorism supported by Pakistan.

Pakistan's human rights record came under sharp scrutiny during the speech. India reminded the international community of the persecution of minorities within Pakistan, the erosion of democratic values, and its continued sheltering of UN-designated terrorists. Tyagi made a compelling argument, stating that Pakistan, with its own flawed governance and internal crises, is in no position to lecture others on human rights. India, on the other hand, continues to focus on democracy, development, and ensuring dignity for its people. Tyagi also called out Pakistan's "unhealthy obsession" with India, urging its leadership to redirect their attention to solving the crisis within their own borders.

India’s response was a direct right of reply to Pakistan’s malicious references made earlier during the session, marking a clear repudiation of Pakistan's attempts to undermine India’s sovereign rights. The remarks further reiterated what India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, had recently declared in a separate UN Security Council address. Harish, too, had unequivocally stated that Jammu & Kashmir is and will remain forever a part of India. This unified response highlights India’s commitment to countering misinformation and pushing back against any efforts to undermine its sovereignty.

India’s stance at both the UNHRC and UNSC underscores its determination to combat Pakistani propaganda and emphasize the need for a focus on stability, development, and sovereignty in the region. The strong words from Indian diplomats are not only a challenge to Pakistan’s narrative but also a call to action for the international community to pay heed to real human rights violations rather than be swayed by political rhetoric.

In conclusion, India’s interventions at the UN highlight a commitment to both regional stability and human rights, advocating for an approach that places democracy and governance at the forefront, contrasting sharply with Pakistan’s instability and propaganda.
