In a powerful and politically charged visit to the United Kingdom, an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation, led by senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, delivered a stern rebuke to Pakistan’s continued support of terrorism, especially in light of recent attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation's public statements aimed to reinforce India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism while affirming that external mediation is neither required nor welcome when it comes to the internal matters of India, especially Kashmir.
Speaking in London at India House, BJP MP Gulam Ali Khatana strongly criticized Pakistan, calling the neighbouring country a habitual beggar that simultaneously spreads terror. His remarks, while resonating with India’s broader diplomatic posture, were directed toward not just Pakistan’s actions but also the global misperceptions about the situation in Kashmir and the need for the Indian diaspora to correct the narrative.
India’s Message: Terrorism Will Be Crushed Without Foreign Help
Khatana minced no words during his address to the diaspora, stating, “Pakistan begs on one side and spreads terrorism on the other. That time has gone.” He emphasized that the Indian army, diplomatic corps, and social networks are fully capable of fighting and defeating terrorism on multiple fronts. “We don’t need any mediation from anyone,” he added, clearly targeting past international calls for dialogue between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue.
He described the delegation’s mission as multi-layered—not just a political outreach, but also a strategic move to inform the global community, especially in Europe, about the truth of India’s anti-terrorism stance and the ground realities in Kashmir post-Article 370.
Highlighting Pakistan’s Role in Kashmir’s Turmoil
Khatana noted that Pakistan was disturbed by the growing democratic participation in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, which had granted special status to the region. Since then, Kashmir has witnessed a significant surge in tourism, infrastructure development, and the re-establishment of democratic norms, including increased voter turnout and political engagement.
According to Khatana, despite India's generosity in sharing water from its rivers under the Indus Waters Treaty, Pakistan has responded not with diplomacy, but with infiltration, drug smuggling, and terrorism. He pointed out that India provides 80% of the rivers' water flowing into Pakistan, yet receives only hostility in return.
He also touched on the historic injustice toward women under previous laws in Kashmir, especially the denial of inheritance rights—a situation that has now been corrected after the constitutional changes made by India.
The Toll of Terror: Human Cost and Historical Perspective
The BJP MP made a passionate appeal to the diaspora to act as ambassadors of India’s truth, noting how over the last three decades, more than 40,000 people have died due to terror in Jammu and Kashmir. Many Kashmiri Pandits were displaced, losing their homes, heritage, and livelihoods.
He emphasized that while the Indian army fights on the ground, there is a need for a diplomatic and informational battle abroad—especially across social media platforms and within international policy circles—to debunk Pakistan’s narratives and defend India’s sovereignty.
MJ Akbar’s Powerful Analogy: Fascism and Ethnic Cleansing
Former Union Minister and senior journalist MJ Akbar, also part of the delegation, described the recent terror attacks in places like Pahalgam as not merely violent incidents but as acts of “fascist terror” and “ethnic cleansing.” Drawing a comparison to Europe’s historical struggle against fascism, he warned the audience in the UK that the ideology of terror stemming from Pakistan should not be viewed in isolation.
Akbar argued that Pakistan has never moved beyond its roots in violence, noting that the country was not born of a popular movement but rather through bloodshed like the Great Calcutta Killings of 1946. He added that Pakistan’s elite has internalized violence, making it an enduring tool of state policy.
“You are in Europe. If Europe doesn't remember fascism, which continent will?” Akbar asked, urging the audience to draw parallels between historic fascism and today’s militant extremism emanating from Pakistan.
A Diplomatic Mission With Strategic Objectives
The delegation’s visit to the UK is part of a broader outreach strategy to mobilize the Indian diaspora, counter misinformation, and strengthen India’s international advocacy on Kashmir. With increasing lobbying efforts by pro-Pakistani and separatist elements in countries like the UK and Canada, Indian lawmakers have stepped up their engagements with parliaments, think tanks, and diaspora communities.
The delegation also aims to remind the world that Kashmir is an integral part of India, and that all steps taken post-2019 have led to peace, stability, and empowerment of locals, contrary to Pakistan's narrative of unrest and repression.
India’s Global Diplomacy vs Pakistan’s Isolation
India's global diplomatic approach, especially under the current government, contrasts sharply with Pakistan’s growing diplomatic isolation. While India continues to sign strategic trade agreements, gain influence in global governance bodies, and host international summits, Pakistan struggles with a crippled economy, rising domestic unrest, and criticism for harboring extremist groups.
The Indian delegation’s statements in London aim to further that divide—by showing India as a mature democracy focused on internal development and security, while painting Pakistan as a state addicted to using terror as an instrument of policy.
Conclusion
The Indian all-party delegation’s tour of the UK marks a decisive moment in India’s international diplomatic campaign against terrorism. By rejecting third-party mediation, exposing Pakistan’s terror links, and reminding the world of Kashmir’s peaceful transformation, the delegation seeks to reshape the global narrative.
With powerful voices like Gulam Ali Khatana and MJ Akbar articulating India’s position and calling out Pakistan's duplicity, the delegation underscores that India's fight against terror is both military and moral. The messaging is clear: India will no longer be a passive recipient of global opinion—it will lead the conversation on terrorism, sovereignty, and peace.
