On his two-day state visit to Mauritius, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will cooperate in the construction of a new Parliament building in Mauritius. During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and his Mauritius counterpart Navin Chandra Ramgoolam upgraded the bilateral relations to an "Enhanced Strategic Partnership." The cooperation will see India playing a pivotal role in building the new Parliament of Mauritius, symbolizing the close cultural and democratic ties between the two nations.

PM Modi referred to the assistance as a gift from "the Mother of Democracy" and emphasized that India and Mauritius are not only connected by the Indian Ocean but also share a rich legacy of traditions and culture.

“We are partners in the journey of economic and social growth, and we have always stood by each other. Whether it’s in health, space, or defence, we continue to move forward together,” said PM Modi, highlighting the shared vision of the two nations.

PM Modi Congratulates Mauritius on National Day

In his speech, PM Modi extended his warm wishes to the people of Mauritius on their National Day, calling it a great privilege to be present during the celebrations. “On behalf of the 140 crore Indians, I congratulate the people of Mauritius on their national day,” said Modi.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi met with former Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, where the two leaders engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing India-Mauritius cooperation in various sectors.

Strengthening India-Mauritius Ties

PM Modi also met with Georges Pierre Lesjongard, the MP and Leader of Opposition in Mauritius, where they held fruitful discussions on strengthening bilateral ties further.

In his social media post, PM Modi shared: "Had a good meeting with former Prime Minister of Mauritius, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth." The visit has fostered stronger political, economic, and social ties between India and Mauritius.

A Historic Visit

During his discussions with PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam, PM Modi expressed India’s pride in being a valued and trusted development partner of Mauritius. The two leaders explored new avenues to promote the interests of the Global South and regional peace and security.

PM Modi also attended a banquet dinner hosted by PM Ramgoolam, where he reiterated that the relationship between the two nations has no boundaries, and both countries would continue to work together for their people’s welfare and for ensuring peace in the Indian Ocean region.
