  • Indian Army mobilised in Telangana’s Medak district to conduct flood relief and rescue operations.

  • Argonda in Kamareddy district recorded 44 cm rainfall within 24 hours, highest in the state.

  • Authorities coordinate with Army to provide relief in flood-affected areas amid heavy monsoon rains.

The Indian Army has been mobilised in Telangana’s Medak district to assist in flood relief and rescue operations following continuous and heavy rainfall across several parts of the state. The decision was taken after several localities reported inundation, disruption of normal life, and damage to infrastructure.

According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Argonda in Kamareddy district recorded an unprecedented 44 cm of rainfall between 8 a.m. on August 27 and 7 a.m. on August 28, one of the highest single-day rainfall figures reported in the state during this monsoon season.

Army Mobilisation in Medak

The district administration of Medak sought assistance from the Indian Army after floodwaters entered residential colonies and agricultural lands, leaving many villages cut off. Responding swiftly, Army personnel were deployed to conduct rescue operations, evacuation of stranded people, and distribution of relief material.

The Army’s engineering units have also been placed on standby to reinforce embankments, clear debris, and restore access routes blocked due to flooding and landslides.

Kamareddy Records Highest Rainfall

The rainfall data provided by TGDPS highlights the extreme weather conditions in the region. With 44 cm of rain recorded in Argonda, Kamareddy district, flash floods and waterlogging have been reported in several areas. Other districts too recorded high rainfall, leading to overflowing tanks, damaged roads, and submerged farmlands.

Meteorological officials have warned of more heavy rain spells in the coming days, advising people in low-lying areas to remain alert.

Relief and Rescue Coordination

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), has been working in coordination with the Indian Army to ensure timely assistance to flood-affected people. Relief camps have been set up in schools and community halls, where displaced families are being provided with food, shelter, and medical support.

The Chief Minister of Telangana has instructed officials to monitor vulnerable districts continuously and to ensure that emergency services remain accessible.

Conclusion

The deployment of the Indian Army in Medak district underscores the severity of Telangana’s flood situation. With Argonda recording 44 cm of rainfall in just 24 hours, the state machinery is on high alert. Relief and rescue efforts are being scaled up, with the combined support of the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local authorities, to ensure the safety of residents in the flood-affected areas.
