In a surprising turn of events, Nitin Menon, India’s sole representative in the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires, has opted out of the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is set to commence on February 19, 2025. The decision comes after Menon was initially included in the list of 12 umpires appointed for the prestigious tournament. While Menon’s withdrawal is a setback, the ICC has swiftly finalized the list of umpires and match referees for the tournament. The line-up includes experienced and respected figures such as Richard Kettleborough, Richard Illingworth, and Kumar Dharmasena, who have officiated in previous high-profile tournaments like the 2023 ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup 2024 finals.

Alongside the umpires, the ICC also named David Boon, Ranjan Madugalle, and Andrew Pycroft as the match referees for the Champions Trophy 2025. However, it is noteworthy that Javagal Srinath, another Indian former cricketer, will be missing from the list of officials for this tournament.

The final list of umpires for the Champions Trophy includes the following names: Kumar Dharmasena, Chris Gaffaney, Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Richard Illingworth, Richard Kettleborough, Ahsan Raza, Paul Reiffel, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, Rodney Tucker, Alex Wharf, and Joel Wilson. These officials will ensure the smooth conduct of matches during the tournament, which will feature some of the top teams in world cricket.
