Venture capital (VC) funding in India has witnessed remarkable growth in the first three quarters of 2024, with an increase of 50.4% Year-over-Year (YoY), reaching an impressive US$ 8.3 billion, as reported by GlobalData. This surge is largely attributed to a significant rise in high-value deals, particularly those valued at over US$ 100 million each.

Between January and September 2024, a total of 883 deals were announced, marking a 7.3% rise in deal volume compared to the same period in 2023. The disclosed value of these deals saw a substantial increase from US$ 5.5 billion in 2023 to US$ 8.3 billion in 2024, reflecting a strong recovery in the VC funding landscape.

High-value transactions have played a crucial role in this uptick. Notable funding rounds included US$ 665 million and US$ 340 million raised by Zepto in separate rounds, US$ 300 million by Meesho, US$ 216 million by PharmEasy, and US$ 210 million by PhysicsWallah. The number of "big-ticket" deals also increased, rising from 10 deals in Q1-Q3 2023 to 15 in 2024, underscoring the revitalization of investor interest in the Indian startup ecosystem.

Aurojyoti Bose, the lead analyst at GlobalData, commented on this positive trend, stating, "The challenge that the Indian start-up ecosystem faced in raising money in 2023 seems to be fading away as VC funding activity has continued to improve this year." He highlighted that India is a key market in the Asia-Pacific region, alongside China, and remains among the top five global investment destinations for VC firms. This transition reflects a shift from cautiousness to cautious optimism among investors, indicating a renewed confidence in the potential of the Indian startup landscape.

The resurgence in VC funding signals a promising future for Indian startups as they seek to innovate and expand in a rapidly evolving market.
