Iran fires 100 missiles at Israel, injures 67 as fourth day of attacks begins

  • Iran fired over 100 missiles at Israel early Monday, striking Petah Tikva and Tel Aviv, with at least 67 people wounded across four impact sites.

  • Israeli authorities confirmed damage to residential buildings, while rescuers searched for more casualties trapped under the rubble in Petah Tikva.

  • Iran signalled defiance against global calls for de-escalation as open warfare with Israel enters a fourth day amid mounting civilian toll.

The Israel-Iran conflict intensified further on Monday, June 16, 2025, with Iran launching over 100 missiles targeting multiple cities in Israel, including Tel Aviv and Petah Tikva, wounding at least 67 people and heavily damaging residential buildings.

The attacks come on the fourth consecutive day of direct hostilities between the two long-time adversaries, pushing the Middle East closer to an all-out regional war and triggering fresh international concern.

Dozens Injured as Missiles Hit Israeli Cities

Air raid sirens blared across northern and central Israel in the early hours of Monday as Iran launched a barrage of over 100 ballistic and cruise missiles.

In Petah Tikva, a city near Tel Aviv, a residential building was struck, causing significant damage. Local authorities reported that concrete walls were charred, windows shattered, and multiple apartments left in ruins.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene, combing through the wreckage to find survivors. There was no immediate confirmation of fatalities, though officials indicated the number of injured could rise.

Tel Aviv Rocked by Explosions Before Dawn

Shortly before dawn, powerful explosions shook Tel Aviv, with black smoke rising over the coastal metropolis. Much of the noise and debris was believed to be from Israel's Iron Dome defence system intercepting incoming Iranian missiles.

Eyewitnesses described the sky lit up with interceptors and fireballs as the city’s residents huddled in shelters.

The Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service reported treating 67 injured persons across four impact sites, mostly for shrapnel wounds, blunt trauma, and blast-related injuries. Most were said to be in moderate or mild condition.

Iran Refuses to De-escalate, Signals Intent to Escalate Further

Iranian state television confirmed the missile launch, claiming it was a continued retaliation for Israel’s Friday strikes on Tehran’s nuclear and military facilities, which reportedly killed key personnel and caused massive infrastructural damage.

The missile salvo, as per Iranian media, was meant to send a message that Tehran would not bow to international pressure for de-escalation.

A spokesperson for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said:

"This is only a part of our response. As long as Zionist aggression continues, we shall escalate."

Mounting Casualties and Regional Toll

The weekend saw some of the most intensive cross-border exchanges in recent Middle East history. Iran reported that Israel’s aerial bombardment had killed at least 224 people and injured 1,277 others, though it did not specify civilian versus military figures.

Among those reportedly killed was the intelligence chief of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, who died during a direct Israeli strike on a command centre in Kermanshah Province.

On the Israeli side, defence authorities stated that Iran has fired over 270 missiles since Friday. Despite Israel's multi-tiered air defence systems, 22 missiles managed to bypass interception, hitting residential areas, commercial zones, and transport corridors.

So far, 14 Israeli civilians have been killed, and 390 have been wounded, including women and children.

Rescue and Medical Teams Overwhelmed

Hospitals in Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Kiryat Shmona are operating under emergency protocols, with doctors working overtime and blood donation appeals issued.

Emergency teams also reported several buildings at risk of collapse due to structural compromise from missile impact, complicating ongoing rescue efforts.

Diplomatic and Strategic Fallout

The latest strikes are expected to further complicate diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict. The abrupt cancellation of U.S.–Iran nuclear talks in Oman has removed the most viable diplomatic off-ramp.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, speaking from New York, called the escalation "deeply alarming" and urged an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.

Meanwhile, China and France, both G7 members, have raised concerns over the impact of missile warfare on nuclear infrastructure, calling the situation “beyond red lines.”

Potential for Wider Conflict Remains High

Analysts warn that if Israel continues retaliating by targeting strategic Iranian facilities and if Iran persists with high-volume missile attacks, the conflict could spill over into Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq.

Hezbollah's increasing mobilisation along the Israel-Lebanon border, coupled with Iran-backed militia movements in Iraq, signal potential multi-front warfare.

The Israeli military has placed air, land, and naval units on full alert, while Iran has activated additional air defence systems in Esfahan, Bushehr, and Tehran.

Energy and Aviation Disruption

The conflict has also impacted oil prices, which spiked by over 5% in global markets after Israel targeted oil refineries in southern Iran on Sunday.

Several international airlines have cancelled or rerouted flights across the Middle East. Aviation authorities in Dubai, Istanbul, and Doha have urged caution for airspace routing over conflict zones.

Conclusion: A Fourth Day of Crisis with No End in Sight

As missiles continue to rain, and casualties rise, the Israel-Iran conflict now enters its most dangerous phase yet, with both countries showing no signs of de-escalation.

With international diplomacy stalled, civilians caught in the crossfire, and military commands expanding operations, the region stands on the edge of a prolonged, destructive war that may have consequences far beyond West Asia.
