The statement intensifies existing tensions in US-Iran relations over nuclear diplomacy and regional security
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has publicly declared that Tehran will not yield to pressure from the United States demanding the dismantling of its nuclear programme. In a televised speech on June 3, 2025, the President strongly criticised the US stance, stating that no free nation would surrender to what he described as oppression and injustice.
“They say you must dismantle everything you have, but no free human being will bow to oppression and injustice,” Pezeshkian said firmly, reflecting Iran’s ongoing defiance against international calls to curb its nuclear activities.
This statement comes amid heightened tensions between the US and Iran regarding nuclear diplomacy, with Washington insisting that Iran must fully dismantle its nuclear infrastructure to ensure regional and global security. Tehran, on the other hand, insists on its sovereign right to pursue nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Iran’s nuclear programme has long been a flashpoint in international relations, drawing sanctions and diplomatic efforts aimed at limiting its capabilities. The refusal to bow to US demands underscores Tehran’s determination to maintain its nuclear ambitions despite international pressure.
The announcement is expected to further complicate the already strained US-Iran relations and pose challenges for ongoing diplomatic negotiations aimed at reviving or reforming nuclear agreements.
President Pezeshkian’s rhetoric also resonates strongly with nationalist sentiments within Iran, reinforcing the government’s position against perceived foreign interference.
As the global community watches closely, the future of Iran’s nuclear programme remains uncertain, with implications for Middle East stability, international security, and global non-proliferation efforts.
