The Israel-Gaza war continues to escalate, with Gaza civil defence officials reporting that Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City have intensified over the past 24 hours. The strikes, described as some of the most severe in recent weeks, have targeted densely populated residential areas, leaving a trail of destruction and mounting civilian casualties.

According to the Health Ministry in Hamas-run Gaza, at least 61,499 Palestinians have been killed since the beginning of Israel’s offensive. These figures, while released by Gaza authorities, have been assessed as credible by the United Nations. The UN has repeatedly warned that the humanitarian situation in the territory is catastrophic, with shortages of food, water, and medical supplies worsening each day.

Residents in Gaza City described the bombardment as relentless, with many saying they have nowhere safe to go. The ongoing strikes have destroyed homes, schools, and vital infrastructure, further displacing tens of thousands of people who were already forced from their homes earlier in the conflict.

The Israeli military maintains that its operations are aimed at dismantling Hamas’s military capabilities and targeting weapons storage facilities. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has reported that nearly the entire population of Gaza — more than 2 million people — is now in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. UN officials have warned that the health system is on the brink of collapse, with hospitals overwhelmed by the wounded and struggling to operate due to fuel shortages.

Meanwhile, the situation on the ground remains fluid. Eyewitnesses report that the sound of explosions continues to echo across Gaza City, and emergency services are struggling to reach affected areas due to damaged roads and ongoing military operations.

This escalation marks yet another grim chapter in a conflict that has drawn global attention for its scale of destruction and loss of civilian life. Without a breakthrough in peace negotiations, the suffering in Gaza is expected to deepen, and the risk of a wider regional conflict remains a pressing concern.
