The fragile Gaza ceasefire is on the brink of collapse as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatens to pull out of the agreement. This comes after Hamas refused to release three hostages, citing Israel’s failure to meet the ceasefire terms, including allowing adequate humanitarian aid into the region.

A senior Israeli official confirmed that Netanyahu has ordered military reinforcements around the Gaza Strip, preparing for any scenario if Hamas does not comply by Saturday. The decision follows an intense four-hour Security Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, where officials discussed the possibility of resuming military operations.

Hamas accuses Israel of violating ceasefire terms

Hamas officials have accused Israel of not fulfilling the agreed-upon terms, particularly regarding the delivery of tents and humanitarian aid into Gaza. In response, the group announced delays in hostage releases, escalating tensions further.

So far, Hamas has freed 21 hostages in five exchanges, while Israel has released more than 730 Palestinian prisoners as part of the deal. However, the second phase of the ceasefire, which aims to secure the release of all remaining hostages and extend the truce indefinitely, is now uncertain.

Trump hardens stance on Hamas hostage deal

Adding pressure to the already tense situation, US President Donald Trump took a firm stance on the hostage releases. After meeting Jordan’s King Abdullah II at the White House, Trump expressed skepticism over Hamas' willingness to meet the deadline.

“I don’t think they’re going to make the deadline, personally,” Trump said, criticizing Hamas for attempting to play a "tough guy" role. His comments have added uncertainty to ongoing negotiations.

Israel boosts military presence around Gaza

In response to Hamas’ threats, Netanyahu has ordered the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to strengthen troop deployment around Gaza. An Israeli official emphasized that the military is preparing for all potential developments if Hamas fails to release the remaining hostages by Saturday.

The reinforcement signals that Israel is ready to escalate military action if the ceasefire agreement collapses. Netanyahu's latest directive comes as part of broader contingency planning to deal with Hamas' non-compliance.
