The SpaDeX mission involved two satellites—SDX-01 (Chaser) and SDX-02 (Target)—which were launched aboard PSLV-C60 on December 30, 2024. The successful docking on January 16, 2025, made India the fourth nation after the United States, Russia, and China to demonstrate space docking technology. The final step—de-docking—was executed meticulously, proving India’s expertise in complex space manoeuvres.
Significance of SpaDeX for Future Missions
This achievement holds immense significance for India’s future space programs, particularly in human spaceflight, lunar sample return missions, satellite servicing, and space station operations. The UR Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), along with multiple ISRO centres, developed SpaDeX, showcasing India’s growing technological prowess.

With SpaDeX success, India’s roadmap to Chandrayaan-4 has become clearer.
