In a strategic political move, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that the party will host a grand plenary meeting next year, aiming to re-energise its cadre and strengthen its presence ahead of the upcoming elections in Andhra Pradesh.
The announcement, made in Amaravati on Wednesday, marks a pivotal moment in the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh, as Jagan Mohan Reddy also used the platform to launch a scathing attack on the current Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition government in the state.
Jagan Slams Naidu’s Governance: A Catalogue of Allegations
Accusing the Naidu-led administration of turning governance into a vehicle for personal gain, Jagan alleged that the government is deeply involved in corruption, manipulation, and favouritism.
According to Jagan, “Politics have reached their lowest under Chandrababu Naidu. From land scams to broken promises, this government has failed the people.” He added that the YSRCP plenary will showcase how the current administration has betrayed public trust and dismantled key welfare initiatives started under his leadership.
Welfare Schemes Scrapped, Public Anger Rising
Jagan was particularly critical of the NDA government’s decision to abolish several welfare schemes introduced during his tenure. These schemes, he said, were designed to uplift the economically weaker sections, support farmers, and improve healthcare and education infrastructure.
“This government has deliberately ignored the needs of the poor by scrapping popular schemes such as Amma Vodi, YSR Rythu Bharosa, and Aarogyasri,” Jagan alleged. He further said that the discontinuation of these schemes has sparked public outrage and discontent across the state.
Alleged Land Scams and Crony Capitalism
A significant portion of Jagan’s statement was devoted to highlighting what he termed “massive land scams under the current regime.” He cited examples such as the alleged allotment of land worth Rs 1,500 crore to Lulu Group for just Re 1, and another allotment reportedly valued at Rs 3,000 crore given to a corporate group at negligible cost.
“Prime land is being handed out like freebies to favoured business houses. This isn’t development—it’s looting the state,” he said, alleging crony capitalism and favouritism under Naidu’s leadership.
Power Purchase Controversy: Burden on Public
In another claim, Jagan accused the current government of making electricity expensive for consumers. According to him, the state is now purchasing power at Rs 4.60 per unit, compared to Rs 2.49 per unit during his rule, adding unnecessary financial burden on the public, especially farmers.
“Naidu’s government has chosen expensive options to benefit private companies at the cost of public interest. This shows where their priorities lie,” Jagan said.
Grassroots Mobilisation: Booth-Level Strategy for 2025
Jagan’s speech was not just about criticism. He also laid out a clear roadmap for his party’s revival and preparation for the next elections.
He urged YSRCP leaders to focus on strengthening the organisation at the booth level, reconnect with local communities, and educate voters about the alleged failures of the Naidu government. “We need to go to every house, every voter, and tell them how they’ve been misled,” he said.
“Work hard in your districts, organise the cadre, and prepare for a major political comeback. The plenary will be our turning point,” he added.
Impact on Andhra’s Political Scene
Jagan’s announcement and strong rhetoric come at a time when Andhra Pradesh’s political atmosphere is already charged with debates over performance, development, and future vision. The NDA coalition, which came to power on the promise of rapid development and governance reform, is facing increasing scrutiny over alleged mismanagement and prioritisation of elite interests.
Meanwhile, YSRCP is attempting to rebuild its support base, positioning itself as the true voice of the common man and promising a return to welfare-oriented governance.
Political analysts believe that YSRCP’s next plenary could serve as a launchpad for its election campaign, offering a public platform to unveil strategies, address grievances, and recapture public sentiment.
Naidu Responds with Silence So Far
As of now, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP leadership have not issued an official response to the allegations made by Jagan. However, sources suggest that a rebuttal may be in the works, especially given the gravity of the claims and the upcoming political calendar.
Conclusion: Plenary as Political Springboard
Jagan Mohan Reddy’s announcement of the YSRCP plenary next year marks the beginning of a high-stakes political contest in Andhra Pradesh. With a charged speech filled with accusations of corruption, failed governance, and a vision for revival, he has set the tone for what promises to be a contentious and dynamic election season.
As political forces gear up, the focus will remain on how each party connects with the grassroots, counters allegations, and navigates the complex web of development, welfare, and accountability.
The stage is set, and the YSRCP plenary may just be the opening act of Andhra Pradesh’s most consequential political drama in years.
