Jagan condemns arrest of MP Midhun Reddy in liquor scam, calls it political vendetta

  • YSRCP president Jagan Mohan Reddy condemns the arrest of MP P.V. Midhun Reddy, calling the liquor scam case a fabricated narrative built on coerced confessions.

  • Jagan accuses Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and the NDA government of political vendetta, using state agencies and media to target YSRCP leaders while shielding their own scams.

  • He claims the TDP-led coalition revived corrupt liquor practices dismantled by YSRCP, such as belt shops and illegal outlets, and vows that truth will emerge once trials begin.

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has strongly condemned the arrest of P.V. Midhun Reddy, a three-time Member of Parliament, in connection with the ongoing Andhra Pradesh liquor scam investigation.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Jagan described the arrest as an “illegal act and a political conspiracy to silence leaders who stand with the people.” He alleged that the case was built on “statements extracted through pressure, threats, and inducements,” branding the entire liquor scam narrative as “media theatrics designed to malign YSRCP leaders.”

Liquor Scam Row Intensifies in Andhra Pradesh

The liquor scam, which has been a major political flashpoint in Andhra Pradesh, involves allegations of corruption in liquor licensing and procurement processes during different state administrations. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been probing irregularities, with multiple arrests made in recent weeks.

Jagan, however, maintains that Midhun Reddy has been falsely implicated and that the current government is using the SIT to target opposition leaders, while “stalling investigations into its own corrupt practices.”

Naidu’s Role Under Spotlight

Taking a direct swipe at Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Jagan pointed out that Naidu himself is out on bail in a case relating to the liquor policy formulated during his 2014–2019 tenure.

“Naidu has no moral right to question our reforms,” Jagan said, adding that the TDP-led coalition has revived old corrupt practices, including belt shops, illegal liquor outlets, and sales above MRP. He accused Naidu of colluding with “yellow media” to create a false narrative against YSRCP leaders.

Claims of Political Vendetta

Jagan alleged that the NDA government is resorting to political vendetta to distract from its own failures and scams. According to him, the liquor scam investigation is being used as a tool to “jail YSRCP leaders indefinitely, even before the trial process begins.”

“This is not a legal investigation but a political witch-hunt,” Jagan stated, asserting that once the trial begins, the truth about the fabricated case will emerge.

What’s Next?

The arrest of Midhun Reddy is expected to further escalate political tensions in Andhra Pradesh, with YSRCP likely to step up its campaign against both the state and central governments. The liquor scam case has become a key battleground ahead of future elections, with both YSRCP and TDP accusing each other of large-scale corruption.
