Jaydev Unadkat, the left-arm pacer for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has been a regular fixture in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2010. On April 23, 2025, during his second match of the ongoing season, he achieved a significant milestone in his IPL career by completing 100 wickets. The 33-year-old dismissed Ryan Rickelton in his very first over of the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) to reach this personal achievement. However, despite the milestone, Unadkat also set an unwanted record as he became the slowest pacer in IPL history to reach 100 wickets, taking 106 innings to do so.

This makes him the 18th pacer in IPL history to hit the three-figure mark in terms of wickets. Before Unadkat, the record was held by Vinay Kumar, who achieved 100 wickets in 101 innings, and Andre Russell followed closely behind with 100 innings. Other pacers who were among the slowest to 100 wickets in IPL include Umesh Yadav (99 innings) and Zaheer Khan (98 innings).

In the match, Unadkat's bowling performance was solid, as he finished with figures of 1/25 in three overs. Despite his efforts, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were in a losing position from the start. They were put under pressure early in their innings, finding themselves at 35/5 in less than nine overs. However, Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar played valiant knocks to help SRH post a total of 143 runs.

On the other hand, MI comfortably chased down the target with 26 balls and seven wickets in hand, handing SRH their sixth loss of the season. This defeat all but sealed SRH’s fate, with the team now virtually knocked out of IPL 2025, leaving them with little hope of making it to the playoffs.

Unadkat’s milestone and the match defeat highlight the struggles of SRH in IPL 2025, a season where they have failed to perform consistently, especially with the bat. Despite individual milestones like Unadkat’s 100 wickets, SRH’s inability to compete has been a recurring theme throughout the season, and they now look unlikely to recover and make a comeback.

As for Unadkat, while his achievement of 100 wickets is a significant individual milestone, his slow progression to that mark serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by pacers in the IPL. Given the intensity of the competition and the dominance of other pacers, Unadkat's record reflects the pressure and expectations that come with playing in such a high-profile league.
