As the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 approach, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is witnessing growing internal tension, particularly within the Janata Dal (United) (JDU), over seat-sharing arrangements. JDU MP Ajay Kumar Mandal from Bhagalpur on Tuesday submitted a letter to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, seeking permission to resign from his parliamentary seat. Mandal expressed strong dissatisfaction with the ticket distribution process, claiming that his opinions and experience of 20–25 years were being completely overlooked in his Lok Sabha constituency.

Mandal alleged that tickets were being distributed without consultation, ignoring dedicated party workers and sidelining local leadership. His resignation request signals a growing rift within the party as the NDA attempts to balance alliance dynamics ahead of the polls.

Simultaneously, JDU MLA Gopal Mandal staged a dharna outside Nitish Kumar’s official residence in Patna, protesting over the denial of his assembly ticket. Gopal Mandal insisted on waiting until he received assurance from the Chief Minister regarding his candidature, emphasizing his determination to secure the party’s backing.

The NDA’s seat-sharing arrangement has exacerbated tensions, with JDU leaders unhappy over losing key stronghold constituencies to alliance partners. Key flashpoints include:

• Sonbarsa constituency (Saharsa district): Currently represented by JDU leader Ratnesh Sada, the seat has been allocated to Chirag Paswan-led LJP (Ram Vilas), causing discontent among JDU cadres.

• Rajgir constituency: Though traditionally under JDU control, LJP(RV) has staked a claim, leading to unresolved disputes within the alliance.

• Tarapur seat: Allotted to BJP Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary, further fueling dissatisfaction among JDU leaders.

These developments reflect broader strains within the NDA coalition in Bihar, highlighting the challenge of balancing alliance interests with the expectations of party cadres. Analysts suggest that the unfolding disputes over ticket allocation could influence campaign dynamics, voter perceptions, and inter-party negotiations as the Bihar elections draw closer.

With polls scheduled for November 6 and 11, and the NDA yet to officially release its complete candidate list, the next few days are expected to be crucial in determining how these internal disputes are resolved, and whether JDU leaders like Ajay and Gopal Mandal will influence the party’s approach to seat-sharing and electoral strategy.
