Key Points

Jio's Rs 349 prepaid plan now has an extended validity of 30 days, offering 30GB of high-speed data.

Airtel and Jio have introduced Unlimited 5G Data Booster plans priced at Rs 51, Rs 101, and Rs 151.

Telecom price hikes by major operators are prompting users to switch to BSNL for more affordable options.

The Indian telecom sector is undergoing significant changes as major operators, including Airtel and Jio, have implemented a price hike on all their recharge plans, effective from July 3, 2024. This hike has led to an average increase of up to 15 percent in plan costs, causing many users to seek more affordable options.

Shift to BSNL Amid Price Increases

In response to the rising costs, a growing number of users are switching to BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) for its affordable recharge plans. BSNL's competitive pricing is attracting consumers who are looking for cost-effective alternatives amidst the steep increases by other major telecom operators.

Jio's Updated Rs 349 Prepaid Plan

To address the competitive landscape and retain its customer base, Jio has revised its Rs 349 prepaid recharge plan. The plan now features an extended validity of 30 days, up from the previous 28 days. This update also includes 30GB of high-speed data, replacing the earlier allocation of 56GB. Despite the extension in validity, the plan continues to offer unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS per day.

Jio announced this update through a social media post on platform X (formerly Twitter), with a playful assertion that "Jeetu Bhaiya kabhi galat nahi kehte" (Jeetu Bhaiya never says wrong). However, it's important to note that the plan is still listed on Jio’s website with the old validity of 28 days, suggesting potential discrepancies in online information.

Airtel and Jio's New 5G Data Booster Plans

Both Airtel and Jio have introduced Unlimited 5G Data Booster plans priced at Rs 51, Rs 101, and Rs 151. These plans offer 3GB, 6GB, and 9GB of 4G data respectively, along with unlimited 5G data. The plans are identical across both telecom operators, providing users with flexible options to enhance their data experience without additional distinctions.

Conclusion

The recent updates in telecom plans reflect a rapidly evolving market, with Jio responding to competition by extending the validity of its Rs 349 plan and introducing new 5G data boosters. Airtel has also entered the 5G booster market with similar offerings. The significant price hikes by major telecom operators have driven users to explore more affordable alternatives like BSNL, highlighting the ongoing competition and shifting consumer preferences within the industry.
