As Operation Sindoor intensifies in response to escalating India-Pakistan tensions, Union Health Minister JP Nadda chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the country's medical preparedness and health infrastructure. The operation, which includes military strikes and defensive responses to cross-border violations, has led to an increase in the need for emergency medical services.
The review meeting, held on May 9, 2025, focused on ensuring the capacity of India’s healthcare system to manage potential emergencies, including mass casualties and displaced populations. Senior officials from the Ministry of Health provided detailed updates about hospitals, emergency medical facilities, and coordination across states, ensuring quick deployment of medical teams if required.
This meeting came in light of the Indian Air Force's successful interception of Pakistani drone attacks and missiles, alongside increased shelling and ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC). As military actions continue, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, the demand for medical support is anticipated to rise.
The Ministry of Defence also issued an important advisory to the media, urging all news agencies to refrain from live reporting or real-time coverage of military operations. This measure aims to protect sensitive operations and prevent operational compromises. The Defence Ministry’s directive stressed the importance of only releasing information through periodic briefings by authorized officials to prevent any risk to national security.
In addition to healthcare reviews, top security officials, including Amit Shah and other senior officers, are also reviewing the border security and airport preparedness in the wake of rising threats. In the field of national defense, JP Nadda emphasized the need for integrated medical preparedness across key areas prone to military conflict, ensuring swift medical responses in conflict zones.
This review by JP Nadda underscores the government's commitment to ensuring that the health infrastructure is equipped and responsive, particularly during national crises. The ongoing tension on the India-Pakistan border has led to state-wise blackouts, as drone explosions triggered temporary outages, impacting vital infrastructure.
Operation Sindoor, which began on May 7, 2025, also marks a continued military assertiveness, including airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These strikes, aimed at neutralizing terrorist infrastructures, have further heightened tensions, and the Indian government is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and preparedness of both civilians and military personnel.
