BJP national president JP Nadda has strongly criticized the tenure of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, calling it a time when Bihar turned into a "doobta Bihar" (sinking Bihar) and entered a phase of "jungle raj." Speaking at a Bihar Diwas event organized by the Delhi BJP's Purvanchal Morcha, Nadda stated that Bihar was on a growth trajectory in the 1970s but suffered under Lalu Prasad’s governance in the 1990s.
Bihar’s Decline Under Lalu Prasad’s Rule
Nadda recalled that crime rates soared, businesses struggled, and professionals, including doctors, fled the state during Lalu Prasad’s rule. He further alleged that during this time, new vehicles were forcibly taken from showrooms for wedding parties, and it was unsafe to move around Patna in the evenings.
Taking a swipe at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, he remarked that those who claim there was no "jungle raj" in Bihar "were not even born at that time."
Bihar’s Revival Under NDA and Nitish Kumar
Nadda praised Nitish Kumar’s leadership and the NDA government for bringing Bihar out of the darkness. He emphasized how the state witnessed major reforms in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and rural development under the NDA's governance.
Listing out Bihar’s progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he highlighted:
-
Rural roads in Bihar expanded from just 384 km in 2005 to over 1.12 lakh km today.
-
Establishment of premier institutions like IIT Patna, AIIMS Patna, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in Bihar.
-
Patna Medical College is set to become Asia’s largest hospital with enhanced medical facilities.
Bihar’s Contribution to Education and Democracy
Praising Bihar's legacy, Nadda highlighted that the state has a rich academic and cultural heritage. He noted that Bihar was home to Nalanda and Vikramshila universities, which were among the world’s greatest learning centers.
Even today, he said, students from Bihar dominate admissions at Delhi University colleges, and many professors from the state have gained global recognition for their academic achievements.
BJP’s Call for Support in Bihar Elections 2024
With Bihar assembly elections 2024 approaching, Nadda urged BJP workers from Delhi to actively campaign in Bihar and ensure the party's victory. He claimed that just like BJP saved Delhi from destruction, they must now bring political stability and progress to Bihar.
Conclusion
JP Nadda’s remarks at the Bihar Diwas event underline the BJP’s focus on highlighting NDA’s achievements while attacking Lalu Prasad’s tenure. With the 2024 Bihar elections nearing, his statements signal BJP’s strategy to mobilize support by emphasizing Bihar’s transformation under the NDA government.
