In a troubling development for security in Afghanistan, an explosion in a bustling Kabul market on Wednesday injured 11 individuals, including young children. The incident occurred in a second-hand clothes market located in the Pamir Cinema district, a densely populated area of the capital. According to the humanitarian group Emergency NGO, which operates a surgical centre in Kabul, the blast's source remains unclear, and there has been no immediate comment from the Taliban regarding the incident.

Stefano Gennaro Smirnov, the deputy country director for Emergency in Afghanistan, reported that among the injured were a 3-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy. Tragically, one man is in critical condition following the explosion, which took place as the market was opening, leading to a rush of people eager to enter. Smirnov emphasized the dire conditions faced by many in this neighbourhood, stating, “This is the Pamir Cinema neighbourhood, one of the most densely populated in Kabul. Many of those affected by this attack will be living in conditions of severe poverty.”

Reports indicate that three rockets were fired at the Frontier Corps headquarters on Hali Road from an unknown location; however, they exploded in the Achakzai residential area instead. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from this attack, although the explosion damaged property, shattering window panes in many houses.

Local security officials confirmed that while the rockets did not hit their intended target, the blasts still posed a threat to residents. A senior police officer stated, “Three rockets exploded in the area; no casualty was reported in the attack,” highlighting the importance of quick response measures by local law enforcement. In the aftermath of the rocket fire, security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation to ensure the safety of residents and locate the source of the attack.
