Despite barriers to implementation, there is a strong focus on workforce readiness and reskilling to ensure employees are equipped for an AI-driven future.

A recent study conducted by KPMG India, titled “Redefining TMT with AI,” has shed light on the current state of AI integration within the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) sectors. The findings indicate that approximately 55% of organizations in these sectors have fully embraced AI, while another 37% are actively scaling their AI initiatives. This shift towards AI has been transformative, with organizations reporting improvements in operational efficiency, enhanced personalized experiences, and better decision-making processes.

According to the report, a significant 67% of respondents noted a reduction of 5-10% in operational costs, while returns on AI investments exceeded 10%. The application of AI technologies is particularly notable in areas such as automating telecom networks and personalizing media content, creating new growth avenues within the industry.

The survey gathered insights from industry leaders, including Chief Digital Officers (CDOs), Chief Technology Officers (CTOs), and Chief Information Officers (CIOs), who provided valuable perspectives on AI adoption. While 13% of organizations remain in the initial planning stages of AI implementation, around 55% anticipate that 30-50% of their product or solution portfolios will be AI-led, contributing an estimated 10-30% to incremental revenue.

The potential for gaining a competitive advantage through Generative AI is also significant, with 65% of Indian CXOs acknowledging its strategic importance. However, the path to full AI integration is not without challenges. Barriers to implementation persist, with 26% of respondents citing a lack of a skilled workforce and awareness as a significant hurdle, while 27% highlighted high implementation costs.

Regarding workforce readiness, the study revealed that 33% of organizations believe that 30-50% of their employees will be AI-ready by the fiscal year 2026. This statistic underscores a strong commitment to reskilling initiatives designed to prepare employees for an AI-driven future. Furthermore, KPMG’s Global CEO survey supports this trend, revealing that 80% of CEOs recognize the critical importance of investing in skill development for organizational success.

As the TMT sectors continue to evolve with AI technology, organizations that effectively navigate the challenges and invest in skill development and reskilling will likely emerge as leaders in their respective fields.
