She reportedly stayed away from campaigning for nearly two weeks due to her discontent. However, following the intervention of Mallikarjun Kharge, Selja resumed her campaign activities. Recently, Rahul Gandhi attempted to foster unity by publicly encouraging both Selja and Hooda to shake hands, which was intended to send a strong message of cohesion within the party.

The Selja vs. Hooda dynamic has garnered significant attention, particularly since Hooda is seen as the de facto face of the Congress campaign in Haryana. Hooda's camp managed to secure approximately 72 tickets for his loyalists out of the total 90 candidates fielded by the party, demonstrating his substantial influence. In stark contrast, Selja could only secure nine tickets for her supporters, a clear indication of the internal rift. Her inability to secure a ticket for her close aide, Dr. Ajay Chaudhary, from Narnaund in Hisar district—despite declaring him a candidate on September 11—highlights her struggles within the party.
